Subject: Seeking help finding reference material.

I'm having absolutely no luck at all finding reference material to model an otter. The best image I found so far was of a footprint. I haven't found an image of an otter with a visible foot at all, just the occassional very small image of an otters head popping out of the water, or curled up in a ball which are not really any help at all. Lutra Lutra was what I was hoping for, to be specific, but at this point, I'll take any flipping otter if I can find actual decent images of it :-) I've searched everywhere I can think of and I'm all out of ideas :-( Shanna. Hoping someone knows a good otter reference site.

I actually doubt I have anything in my arsenal at the moment but have you tried the Eyewitness Childrens Books published by Dorling Kindersley? They have some of the greatest photo refs in the world and they also produce sticker sets based on themes like Birds, Sea life, etc. There's sure to be something there for you. If I can remember, I'll try to look through my books at work, I'm sure there's at least one on otters, sea lions, and the like. :)

Shoshanna, Here's a few examples - say what you want about MSN.com but they seldom let me down some of them even show the feet. http://www.stormloader.com/mrsg/animals/otter.html http://www.animaltrial.com/otter.html http://www.goldenstateimages.com/otter.htm http://www.otternet.com/galleries/naotter/ http://www.ecobeetle.com/seaotter.htm http://www.junglewalk.com/photos/Otter-pictures.asp googled from: http://search.msn.com/ hope these help, - TJ

You guys are fantastic (as well as much better at searching the net than I am) :-) Now I've got somewhere to start. Thank you very much. Shanna :-)

Go to google, enter otter in the search engine, then notive they have an image search function, click on that

I just did a google image search for otters. 9,740 results.

Shoshanna, try this (to narrow down that 9740 result). Go to Google. Click on Images. To the far right click on Advanced Image Search. Type in Otter on the first line. Now narrow the search to Large (the first pull down menu in the lower section). I like Large images both because you can see more detail and because they make better image planes in my modeling package. Now we only have 3510 images to deal with, but they are all large images and thus more likely to be of use (to me). This one's a cutey. :-) http://wildlife.wisc.edu/tws/Pictures/Cal-otter.jpg Not a very good ref pic, but cute. jon
