Subject: Pulp art?!

I'd just like to say that I've noticed an increase in artists maiking images and pointing to the fact that their images are "Pulp". Is this to poke fun at pulp art, or to just categorize it? Just wondering if i'm missing something.

Do you have any examples? Many artists have a liking for the 'pulp' style (for non-English readers: books, magazines etc. which are produced cheaply with the intention that they be thrown away after reading). I don't think they would be poking fun at it, it's more likely to be made with respect, in homage even, but the context of the actual image should tell you their intent.

I was just speaking in a general term. I like other enjoy pulp art. I was just wondering if people thought negativly about it because some places on the internet seem to not like it as much. Things like fantasy books are critisized often for being "pulp" So i was just wondering what some people thought.

No, I think it is just a genre description, especially if the art portrays a character from a comic series or is done in that style. For example, if I portrayed The Mariner crouched on a submarine in full 3D with volumetric lighting, I might call it "pulp" so that people hunting for their comic heroes will find it in a filter. The flip side is taking any figure, say Ultramarine, and flattening the cell-shaded render (z-toon) so that it looked like a 50's comic when finished and text balloons added. In either case, no disrespect or self-deprecation, would be intended... just a marker to get my art before the right appreciative eyes. BTW, I don't do comics. However, we don't have a category for visual puns. Yet. ;^) Carolly

I love PULP ART. I tried a bit of it with my noir theme at the beginning of my album, but its still not quite the same thing. Go online and search for pulp art and you'll get a bunch of magazine covers from the 50s. It's a nice place to start if you want to try something different.
