Subject: Cr2 Files Explained -- ??

As a diversion from another question, I started looking for documentation or tutorials on the format of PZ3 and CR2 files. Several places pointed to a great sounding document called "Cr2 Files Explained" - but the links are all bad. The doc appears to have disappeard. Does anybody have either the file, or a pointer to it, or some other information on the contents of these files? Pointers appreciated. The original question that got me into this search was about morphs. I ran into a figure that had an "unmorphable" body part: there were morphs defined, and dials, but moving the dial essentially did nothing (and the dial value reset itself to the original number when I was done). If anybody has an answer to this one as well, I'd like to know how they did it... Thanks -- C.

Curious Labs had planned to release a file specification, but it seems to have been shelved. However there is an unofficial one at the link. As for your unmorphable morph, there are a few things which might cause this. Can you give more details, such as the model that you're morphing, and where the morph came from - made by yourself, if so how; or downloaded, if so from where.

I bet it is Mike's hand... and the grasp dial. :)

Maybe you simply had "limits" activated.

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

The spec (thanks EnglishBob) was quite useful, and actually pointed me to the answer to my second question. I poked around in the CR2, found a "locked 1" entry, and traced it to the totally obvious and completely overlooked Object -> Lock Actor menu entry. So that problem is solved, and I'm happily tearing apart CR2s. Thanks all -- I appreciate the help.

WARNING tearing apart CR2s can become addictive! It helps to have a good text editor, I use EditPad Lite. A cr2 editor is also very usefull, I use CR2Builder. Morph Manager 4 is also must have. And last but not least Mat Pose Edit. All the software mentioned above is free :) Good luck, and try to get a little sleep once in a while.
