THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Textures and animation

Finally started to animate with bryce. Everything is easy and straight forward enough, except one thing: Moving objects move the way I need, but the textures on some objects stay still. Some textures move along with the animated object, while other textures do not move or rotate. Yet, I have done nothing different with the settings. At least I don't think I have? My question is; what am I not doing correctly?

Experiment with the different mapping modes. 'World Space' will leave the material static in space while the object moves, 'Object Space' will have the material locked on the object so it moves with it.

one of the settings of the material is the way it is attached to the object, it can be in the world coordinate qyqtem, in the object coord system, according to the UVmap, planar etc... If the textures is in the world coordinate system, it won't move with the object. to know where to change this settings take a look to the image.

Thanks a million! That's a big help! Now I'm getting some even better ideas. My parametric images are moving along properly, as terxtures, but will they rotate or undulate? hmmmmm.

You can also animate the textures. If you click on the link you can see how I made a moving waterfall by offsetting the material between keyframes. You can use the same technique on object mapped textures to make the material move one way while the object is moving another. You can use it to make flames flicker or the jet of your turning spaceship or carried torch for example.
