Subject: Uploading Animations

Hi'I've seen one or two little animations in the Gallery. How do I go about uploading?size,format...etc?

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 05 May 2004 at 5:19 AM

It was most likely an animated gif or a movie file linked to an outside site. Renderosity doesn't take normal movies as an upload. But, you could upload a small animated gif, as long as it wasn't over the 512kb limit. AS

Thanks AS it works fine, there I was thinking it would be rather technical. Thanks again Jed.

you could always just upload placeholders for the thumb and main gallery image, and in the comments field just enter html tags that imbed the bigger animation :) drac

Haven't THEY stopped us from doing that now? Due to "abuse"?

I dunno... But then again, my animated .gif is under 100K. (Or are you referring to the embedded stuff?) I just saved my animation as a bitmap sequence and then used another program to make the .gif (Animation Shop 2, as it came w/ PSP.) Animated .gifs work pretty good for most purposes. But if you have a lot of different colors it won't look so great.

I don't believe so, I think you can still put html in your notes, otherwise you will just have to spell out the link to be copied/pasted. AS

HTML tags are OK, but if you try anything else you get a "Sorry, but due to misuse of this feature you may no longer insert image, embed, bgsound tags or onload/onclick actions in the Notes." error. (I tried to embed a sound onto an image for some reason that escapes me)

Yeah, embeding a sound to a picture, thread, etc, REALLY annoys the heck outta members, then they immediately IM the Mods/Admins to complain to high heaven, lol. AS

AH, that's probably why I tried to do it.

Well I managed to upload, same method as pauljs75.Only a simple little thing.Maybe more Brycers would try a small animation if there was a genre devoted to them?...

AgentSmith ( ) posted Thu, 06 May 2004 at 7:57 PM

We wanted to do it, but found that members only wanted Renderosity to host the animations. Which the staff is all for, but the bandwidth would be astronomical, so literally, financially we couldn't do it. But, even if there was an animation catagory that would only accept animated gifs, or animations that were hosted elsewhere, maybe that would be enough? AS
