Subject: DivX - Xvid Encoding in PPP + P5

I got the DivX Pro [version 5.1.1][Encoding]& the XviD [24/June/2003] [Encoding] codecs installed and rendered a short test movie in P5, fine no problems and the file size/quality was great. In PPP however if I tried to use the DivX or Xvid codec to encode the avi I received this error message "Problem setting AVI stream format. May have invalid compression options or unsupported CODEC." Is there any version of the DivX codec that is supported in PPP, or any suggestions of a good encoder? PS: this is just for test renders, I will be rendering to image sequence.

You may want to install one of the two codecs, cause i've had problems before where it would call for Divx and Xvid would come up and vis a versa

One thing to keep in mind is that many codecs have width/height/colour-depth limitations. Having everything evenly divisible by two or four is a good rule-of-thumb. In the case of DivX, at least, width must be a multiple of four, and height must be a multiple of two. And I don't think it supports 16-bit colour. I just gave DivX 5.1.1 (non-pro) a try with my installation of Pro Pack and it appears to work fine.

I've been caught by that width/height/colour-depth limitation several times. The error message is not very helpful. I now make sure my picture frame is evenly divisible by two or four.

The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Thanks for your help, all. I think one of the problems was that i also had slightly ealier versions of the Divx codec installed and it may have been clashing? Anyway, got it working and thanks for the height width tip (I think I had a vague recollection of that)! PS: Anyone got a serial# for Poser 5? (jesus I'm joking! Don't start!LOL!)
