i ran across this site the other night while trying to take a bit more scientific approach to getting proper facial proportions in poser,my apologies if it's been posted before...it's semi-interesting reading but also has many useful "front on" face shots of various looks, both male and female...many of the faces are averaged composites, scientifically attractive and otherwise :)the pics aren't super high rez but look good and may be useful as reference material in morphing faces..anyway have a look...the virtual miss germany part is a bit frightening :)

Dr. Michael R. Cunningham, University of Louisville (Kentucky, USA) has done considerable sociopyschological research on human beauty and mathematical formulas, etc. both of Americans and of other cultures. I worked with him for two semesters on the cross-cultural part of the research.

Since skin condition is a measure of health (and thus sexual attrativeness) having perfect computer skin go up against real-life women with no makeup or moisterizer isn't quite fair. Every last line, wrinkle, pimple or catch of the light will count against her. A much more fair basis of comparison would be to allow the real humans to even out their skin tines. Maybe no blush or highlighter to contour the face, but certainly something to patch the pimples! Note that I didn't think their most perfect woman was beautiful... I thought her bland and uninteresting. The prettiest of the German beauty queens was the one with the dimpled chin... she has a direct gaze and self-assuredness which the others lack. Carolly

That was a very interesting read indeed. It seems my next job will be somewhere around blind people LOL

It's similar to a Scientific American article I found years ago that used a similar averaging process with photographs of attractive women. The problem I had with the conclusion, that the most averaged faces were deemed the most attractive, was that everybody I showed the article to disagreed, including myself. Everybody picked the less averaged photos as being the most attractive. What the article failed to point out was that the most averaged face was only the most liked by the most people, but probably wasn't the best liked by any one person. There isn't one most beautiful person in the world, just the most beautiful to the viewer. Those personal preferences usually won't be the most averaged looking face--there will usually be some distinctive features that one person will find enhancingly attractive. Those same distinctive features may be less attractive to others. That would account for the most averaged faces being perceived the most beautiful. The most averaged faces had the least distinctive qualities that others might not find attractive. If the test used a ranking system of most to least attractive, the most averaged face would receive the fewest very negative rankings. The most average images might not receive the best rankings for any one person, but would overall fare well by not being ranked very low by anyone.

I also couldn't help noticing that it was only caucasian people in that survey. I doubt that asians or africans would prefer caucasians. I've read another survey once that proved that you tend to prefer a partner that looks like your dad (if you're a girl) or mom (if you're a boy) to a degree. Not that you would fall in love with your parents of course, but people, for instance, who had a father with a beard would prefer a bearded male. Beards were another thing absent in those pictures btw. I do absolutely prefer males with a beard. Like my hubby. And yes, like my father G

Interesting site. I wonder if that's where the lady on the Jasc Paint Shop Pro title screen comes from.
