Create an earth-like planet in five steps (works for other kinds of planets too). 1. Create a new document in Photoshop en create a new layer in it. In this new layer set the Marquee to draw circular and select a circle of the preferred size. Fill the circle with white. Now check the "preserve transparency" checkbox in the layer overview. Use FILTER | TEXTURE | GRAIN on the circle, set both option to maximum (picture 1). 2. Use a motion blur on the grained circle (FILTER | BLUR | MOTION BLUR). Do not overdue the size of the blur, we don't want straight lines. Now set the CONTRAST pretty high to get distinguishable colors. (picture 2) 3. Use IMAGE | ADJUST | HUE/SATURATION to give the circle an earth-like blue color as in picture 3. 4. Go to FILTER | ARTISTIC | PLASTIC WRAP -> set the detail to at least 13 and the smoothness to 2 or 3 to create this atmospheric effect. (picture 4) 5. Use RENDER | LIGHTNING EFFECTS to finish it, for best results use an Omni light set to negative. A nice extra is the external glow I added (under LAYER | EFFECTS)...this is it! Hope you find this mini-tutorial useful :) Happy drawing. The Engineer.
