Subject: Is there a way to export animations as a series of still images?

I want to make a series of bmp or jpegs instead of an avi so I can edit later without artifacts. Is it possible?

Yup. This is, in fact, the preferred way to make an animation for final use.

Tip: Don't export to JPEG if you're trying to avoid artifacts. Use BMP, TIFF, or PNG instead. Hold off on the JPEG compression until you've finished editing.

If you don`t have a lot of harddisk space then you might want to use jpgs but save them with a high quality number like 95 or higher, there wont be too much artifacts but the files will be much smaller.
