What I don't understand is how this change comes about w/o at least some kind of outside imput. There was a survey. I filled one out. I can't for the life of me remember how i got to it (e-mail I think, I wanna say newsletter link but i dont recall for sure). but there was "outside" input.

Well I just took a look at a product page - not happy not at all. I doubt I'll shop here much anymore (that is not monetary blackmail BTW, just that I won't have the patience). Some of us are still on dial up (not our choice, just where we live) and there is no way I'm going to spend the time it takes to load all 3 product images, among all the other images that load into one page. edit I see that it wasn't all the product pages - I wish 'rosity would forbid bokers from doing that though. /edit

Like others I dislike the white - I don't actually dislike White altogether, the new design at 3DA is white - but I do dislike it with the default blue as the 2 together looks washed out and depressing (colour does encourage spending yo know). I don't see any reason why our colour choices shouldn't work in there.

Tyger - I took that survey - there wasn't outside input in the way they are asking - the survey didn't ask if we'd like this. There was no question regarding overriding our colour preferences, or the size of the text. Then again that is generally what a designer figures out and of all the professional designers I know - not one of them would have done that. Too much white space because it isn't coded to be liquid, text too small and therefore unappealing, loasd time not taken into consideration...

Renderosity, there are very few times when I've seen makeovers either in the newspaper biz that I used to be in or now on the web in which it just didn't work. This is one of them. You've got some serious functionality problems with this redesign. The "What's New" feature was used by many as a way to check out the site on a regular basis. It provided maximum viewing for your products. And you got rid of it. I've looked at the page four times now and I can't find it so if its there, then its not obvious enough to be functional. The white is really hard on the eyes. Frankly folks you really blew it. I've made alot of purchases on your site, and I won't be making any more until you fix the problems. Its just too much of a hassle to deal with your new functionality. -jay

Uhm wow, what can I say that hasn't already been said. The only thing I do like about it is the themed sections. This is a good idea! Occasionally I do like to search by themes and the old search engine bit the big one. Still when I come to the site to see whats new I don't want to have to go through a bunch of hoops to do it...

nickedshield ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 10:05 AM

With this site being so painfully slow at times I rely heavily on the What's New to find out if what I saw in the product Showcase forum has made it. This layout reminds me too much of PoserPros. I'm sorry, I'm not going to wait, and wait , and wait for a couple of pages to load just to find the hyperlink and wait some more.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Shoshanna ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 12:42 PM

There is now a What's new link on the front page of the Market Place. You should also be able to see what is in your cart & past purchases etc... The little > have been changed for a button which says all. These should make it easier to navigate the Store.

ronstuff ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 12:54 PM

Don't like the small thumbnails or the color scheme - not friendly to browsing. Technical improvements to search are nice though. Unfortunately, this is all I can get when I click to the marketplace.

I am on the bandwagon of not likeing how it is set up now. Not easy at all. Liked the other versuion better.

SnowSultan ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 1:07 PM

Would it be possible to make the standard links for Wishlist, Cart, etc appear over individual product pages like before? I added something to my Wishlist, but had to backtrack a ways in order to make it back to the What's New page. Just a suggestion. :) SnowS

Well.....I really don't have a problem with it! :) Oddly, I found things that I never knew existed before....like Alfon's models for example.....some great 3d's models that are just what I needed and can be used in Vue without a hitch! Anyway....I see you've added a "What's New" button and that's good. Sometimes I too simply want to see what the recent entries are. I could care less about "What's Hot". That category is too subjective....everyone's tastes are different. But when I'm looking for a very specific item, I like to be able to select by category and not have to wade through a lot of stuff that's not applicable. For that reason I like the categories by software type.

Crescent ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 2:34 PM

Okay, new rant. Why are there only 74 new items? (If you click on What's New, it only offers 74 items. I tried to game the system and it wouldn't let me go farther back.) If I go on vacation for a week, I might not be able to see all the items that were uploaded while I was away. And, PLEASE give me my user defined colors! With a big screen, there's so much white on the page that it hurts my eyes. Grumble (Yes, I'd like some cheese with my whine!)

FishNose ( ) posted Thu, 27 May 2004 at 2:57 PM

Well since I have no puchase history here - in other words I have a total of zero purchases at Rosity - can I have all the money back please - all the money I sent to you? I mean, I didn't get anything for it, apparently. And it was a LOT of money. I've been sending it for years. :] Fish

i do like that i don't have to click 4 or 5 times just to look at, for example, victoria characters. i do think that the users prefs should be used, but then i'm assuming that this will happen when it's in a more final phase.

I got to a product page and what I DID like was that all of the products promo pages were on ONE HTML page. Just had to scroll down. Apparently this is not the case with all of the product pages. I kinda like ONE PAGE per Product. Saves clicks. Something to consider? I miss the larger thumbnails.(Were they larger or is the white background making them smaller? I thought black made things smaller.)

Hey! Another thought. While you folks are tinkering in the marketplace, could you have it so that I could sort My Wishlist by Vendor, Item Name and Price?

It's strange, trekkie - I can only reach my purchases page using your link. When I go to the MP the usual way, the good ol' links to Wishlist etc are not to be seen.... ? :] Fish

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 28 May 2004 at 2:15 AM · edited Fri, 28 May 2004 at 2:17 AM

Oh.. Well I can't find a link from the Market Place either. Nor is there a link to my account. So last night when I actually wanted to buy something, I have to open an extra browser window to check on my instore credit balance. (and yes, it was an impulse buy, triggered by a banner - NOT something I saw by browsing the MP) *** Edit: There is actually a link to your account from the FRONT PAGE of the Marketplace. But not from the individual pages in the MP. This should be fixed.

Two minutes of peering at those miniscule thumbnails was enough for me. Like almost everyone else has mentioned here, I browsed the Whats New every day. Note that is past tense. I see Rosity has at least been quick to replace the Whats New link on the opening page. But it only links to the last few days worth of products, not the entire store in chronological order like it used to. And I'm damned if I'm going to sit with my nose 6 inches from my screen trying to decipher the contents of the thumbnails. Like ernyoka1 I also prefer being able to check past purchases from any page without having to navigate back to page one. I think my credit card will be taking a rest for a while. There's nothing I need badly enough to inflict that sort of eyestrain on myself.

I'm guessing the new look was designed with a lower res desktop in mind, but the powers that be need to realize that higher res 19" monitors are only like $200 for the last year or two, and most artists I know run the highest res that they can for both photoshop and poser.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Everything seems to work pretty good now. Love the improvements. One wish: Please make the thumbs as big, as they were before! I loved browsing through the different categories, and very often the thumbs were so alluring, that I clicked on them to learn more. But now...

By now, those that have posted opinions have already received personal messages from me regarding your specific concerns. I appreciate everyone's input and feedback. The 2 most popular requests are background color change, and thumbnail size. We will be reviewing these 2 key issues and will see what we can do to take care of these concerns. Please understand that due to the length of these threads and the number of them, I cannot personally address each item in here. If you contact me directly, I will be happy to assist you as best I can. Best wishes, LillianH Renderosity Marketing & Promotions

Thanks for responding! We are glad you and the staff are working on this and trying to satisfy Renderosity's customers. One other issue has been mentionned which should be easy to fix and is important, having the what's new "view all" function go back ad infinitum instead of a limited number of items. Thanks again.

I too was a bit dissappointed by the change, but last night I did make some successful purchases from stuff that I'd left on my wishlist. No problems encountered, although I haven't yet tried to find new stuff under the redesign. My purchase history is still there. I had some questions and concerns about the new format and the controllers here got right back to me. Not to find fault or anything, but I've never gotten that level of help from the other major Poser online sales site. For whatever it's worth, the larger thumbnails were good with the old system, and the text is a bit small now, bit I don't think it's as horrific as all that. But if they wanted to change back I wouldn't complain, either.
