I've finished the free shader pack I've been working on. There's just one problem. It's a 3.2 Meg file and I can't host it myself. Is there anybody out there that could host it for me? I'd like to post it to the Rendo free stuff but I don't have the bandwidth. Above is an example pzz file that comes with the pack. It has all of the render settings for water as well as some example water props. Yes, I know the fountain looks like it's made of ice. It was the best I coud do. I may get better at it later. The waterfall in the background is the same shader, suggesting that maybe it just needs some specularity tweeking for individual scenes. There's a bunch of other stuff in the shader pack. You can see some examples in the linked thread.

Here's another example of some shaders in the pack.

There are almost 200 all-procedural shaders in the pack, so I can't show them all here, but I'll try to show some highlights.

Great work Ajax ! Very original textures. Plus I know that I can learn a lot merely by looking at how you did them. I can host your files for free, no problem. My e-mail is compiler@free.fr, if you want to send them to me so that I can upload them. Thanks for making your talent available to us.

Ajax ( ) posted Mon, 31 May 2004 at 7:52 AM

Thanks compiler :-) Let me see if I can find somewhere to upload them temporarily and I'll send you a link.

OK. I love the ball : it looks like a "petanque" bowl.

This'll do for now. The pack also contains a bunch of water and glass shaders, some mirrors and a few skin shaders that are meant to be used in conjunction with your favourite jpeg skin texture. Those just set up the specularity and bump to get particular effects as well as adding procedural plague pustules and stuff like that.

Oh wow. If you need a mirror host, I know fitzy over at Planit3d will be more than happy to host it for you. IM him or Ben_Dover if you're interested :o)

I was wondering if tlc01 might be able to host it also? I LIKE the idea of a single place for us to all put Poser 5 materials - be theyr "proper" materials like yours or P5 versions of MAT files that apply all of the materials for a figure in one go. Cheers, Cliff

simontemplar ( ) posted Mon, 31 May 2004 at 9:22 AM

This is just amazing. I can't wait to see that pack... so many effects I always wanted to apply, at the reach of the hand :) Kudos to you Ajax, you're really the man :D

geoegress ( ) posted Mon, 31 May 2004 at 10:09 AM

If you upload a product to rendervisions.com for sale, Lady Cherry will give you 50 MB of web space to host anything you want :)

Ben_Dover ( ) posted Mon, 31 May 2004 at 10:31 AM

Well somebody hurry up and put it up somewhere, those are great shaders! ;) Those skeletons really came out wicked looking and I love the water in the first image, nicely done Ajax.

ronstuff ( ) posted Mon, 31 May 2004 at 12:02 PM

These are great, Ajax! I can hardly wait to try them. It sure would be nice to have a single repository where we can all share our shaders. I would think CL should host them because they really increase the value of their product.

Cool looking shaders there Ajax! While we're on the subject of freebie P5 shaders, I did a couple of kinda x-ray type shaders for P5 a while ago, they're at the link if anybody wants them. The waving skeleton is demonstrating one of them. There are two colour variations of it, orange and blue.

Lyrra ( ) posted Mon, 31 May 2004 at 1:00 PM

Ajax, Well if space is still needed I can tuck them into my site, no problems. 3 megs is nothing for me lol Lyrra

Ajax ( ) posted Mon, 31 May 2004 at 4:57 PM

I've uploaded it to freestuff and apparently it will be approved within 48 hours. Thanks a heap to everybody that offered hosting. I'm really pleased there's so much interest in this. Compiler has me covered for the Renderosity Free Stuff section, but I'm happy to post the pack on other sites if somebody wants to host it for some site in particular.

Great work Ajax and I can't begin to tell you how much it's appreciated!

maxxxmodelz ( ) posted Tue, 01 June 2004 at 3:22 AM

Just downloaded your pack in freestuff. This is, hands-down, the BEST material collection for P5 I've seen to date. Congrats on this achievement.

Tools :  3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender v2.74

System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB GPU.

Ajax ( ) posted Tue, 01 June 2004 at 5:00 AM

Thanks for your kind words everybody. I can't tell you how happy I am to see that people are going to find this stuff useful. I think P5 really deserves more popularity than it gets, especially because of the stuff you can do with the material room, but I know how hard it is to get your head around. It's taken me over a year to get this far. I've learned a lot out of making this pack and I'm really looking forward to seeing people using and improving on these shaders. I've put in the license that I'm releasing them to the public domain, so I hope to see some really cool modifications of them coming out in future. I'm also really looking forward to seeing how people use these in renders. Some of these shaders are better than others, but I hope there'll be something in here for everyone. odeathoflife, I am using my file locker, but I've run out of space and the bandwidth is only 1 gig per month, of which I would have used about a third in the last couple of hours if I'd put the shaders there :-(

The server is free but is known to have some problems during french rush hours on the net (18:30 - 21:00 french time). Thanks for your generosity, Ajax ! (BTW : did you see the film about Troy ?)

Ajax ( ) posted Tue, 01 June 2004 at 4:13 PM

Wow! They're done. Thank you soooo very much for putting the time and care into making them, and the absolute generosity of making them public domain. {hug} There are some wonderful effects up there. Carolly
