Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 09 3:46 am)
I moved Poser not only to a new drive, but to a new directory structure (inside my e:/my documents/poser/) and had no problems whatsoever. I chose to change the directory way it was done to try to make the blasted way the thing wants to open documents a bit easier and faster. I also then just deleted everything inside c:/program files/metacreations/poser 4, etc, but I did make shortcuts inside there to the new stuff, including shortcuts to my morph files, and other things I like to access swiftly. Once one is done rearranging everything to your convenience and liking, be sure to change all of your shortcuts inside your start menu, desktop, etc, to point to where the program now resides. And do NOT ever change the order of things or move them around inside the Runtime folder, since if you for instance yank out all your cr2s and move ONLY them, poser cannot find them, period. Move it all, or move none of it.
Ideal, thanks for the advice, I have split it up and moved onto Cd before, when I put it back from the CD, I always put it back in the same location, since I backed it up last I have added loads of my custom poses, and props and didnt really want to go threw the trouble of backing it up again, not yet anyway. at 3 gigs worth it is a real pain to go threw: ) I just wasnt sure, I noticed in the CR2 it looks for geomitries and textures in C drive, but if thats not a problem, I am happy: ) and am sure my C drive will be aswell; )
Some of the custom made work may indeed be looking to the C drive for textures and geometry, so you may wind up needing to redirect it to the new locations when you open it, and then resave it out to a new cr2. Stuff that comes by default though, and most out of Zygote, is not drive specific in where it looks I have noticed.
Easily... I simply did a cut and past on my entire directory structure from drive c: to D: I created an alias, so the start menu still worked, and it put up the torch as it searched for the app the first time, and it asked where a few things were after that, but it was easy, took a while to copy 1.2Gb like, but.... :) later jb

Hello all, I am running out of space on my C Drive, main reason being my poser directory is massive. I have another drive with loads of space and I was thinking uninstalling Poser to make space, then I was planning on moving the left over directorys from the un-install to my other drive, then re installing Poser to the new directory. Does anyone know if Poser will look for the geom's and textures information in the new drive or keep looking for it in The c, where they are located now? anyone have any ideas if this will work, or will I have to edit every cr2 to get it to work? Any help will be much appreciated, T.I.A cheers, Darren
