Subject: Heads up on problem with my P5 shader pack.

Ajax ( ) posted Tue, 08 June 2004 at 4:45 PM · edited Sat, 08 February 2025 at 12:25 AM

There was a problem with the zip file of my P5 shader pack that made the zip create extra empty folders when you unzip. The problem has been fixed now and the version now in free stuff is the fixed one, but if you already installed the old one, you may have a bunch of empty folders in your Poser 5 folder. You'll need to get into your Poser 5 folder and check for empty folders then delete them if you find any. My profuse appologies for this. I only just found out about it last night.

One more thing. I'm just about to head out of town on an emergency business trip, so I may not be around to answer questions. Not sure when I'm back. Could be tomorrow, could be the end of next week.

Thanks, Ajax. I'm using a few of the shaders at the moment. They're marvellous. I do have a few questions about them but they can wait. I hope everything's ok with you and yours. Have a safe journey there and back.

The shaders are really great - I spotted the extra folders and just deleted them - no problem, but thanks for fixing the archive. A lot of people who use the ZIP that comes with Windows do the same thing and it does get tiresome to have to delete all the empty folders. If you use a better ZIP program, the empty folders will be disregarded when you create the archive. I use Power Archiver and love it (I used the freebie for years, and finally decided the guy who made it deserved the 15 bucks cause it was so great) - it will make smaller zips than Windows too! and you can view the contents as a list or as a directory tree whichever you prefer. Lots of other nice features too, and reads almost all compressed formats.

I noticed that little "glitch" when installing you shaders, but I unpacked them to a temp directory first, so no worries here. The materials are OUTSTANDING. I'm using them often. Thanks for the pack. PS: Your water mat is one of the best I've used in Poser.

I noticed the extra folders, and got rid of them, though newbies might get confused. THis is still an awesome set of shaders. As above, the water is amazing, and even many other textures bring amazing life to simple props. Thanks! Shogakusha

I'm back in town now. It was a work thing. They needed me to visit another state to sort out some stuff. It didn't take as long as I expected. The zip I use is WinZip - actually not a microsoft product nor shipped with windows, despite the name. It's pretty good but sometimes if you add things and then delete them it keeps the folders they were in even though all the files are gone. I forgot that and it kept a bunch of empty folders. I'm really glad you guys are liking the shaders. I learned a lot out of making them. Still more to learn though :-) SamTherapy, you can hit me with those questions now if you like. Might be best to start a new thread and link to it from here.
