Subject: Need help with an avi.

I need some advice on opening an AVI that I made using VUE. (yes it's the latest version, bla bla bal). The file is a 2 min. uncompressed .avi and is around 2.5GB. I've tried using windows media player, quicktime, pinnacle and realtime. The only one I've had any luck with is realtime player, but that only plays about 7 sec. before locking up. I would like to be able to import it into Pinnacle to edit and compress the file, but right now that's not happening. So, any idea what I can do; besides rerendering the .avi into smaller portions. Thanks guys. e.

What resolution is the .avi? If the resolution is high then trying to stream an uncompressed .avi can simply exceed the data tranfer rate of your HD, paticulary if the file system is fragmented, although an editor like Pinnacle Studio should be able to read it, though probably not give you realtime preview. Also what OS? Some programs have problems with large files on FAT32 systems, though I'd be suprised if Media Player was amonst them. John

Yep just use a better compression method. I always save anims as individual frames but when I make anims in other apps I use Quicktime & DV-PAL codec. Unless its a test then I'll use DIVX or 3IVX.
