I have a question about weird shadow effects with a curvy shadow from a cube with only one sphereical light source. How the hell did that happen?

That curve isn't actually two straight lines with a bend in the middle is it? Looks to me like its the shadow from the lower left and upper left edges of the top face of the cube (the darkened face on the top thats sort of facing out towards the viewer). The bend in the shadow is caused by the joint between those two edges.

Also you have a curved wall back there that the shadow is being cast onto ... thats probably having an effect on it too and bending the straight edge shadows a little too.

I'm guessing thats what it is.

is it not just the curved background wall that's causing it?

I agree with Pogmahone and Flak, stick in a square 2d blank pic so that the shadow falls on it, it probably won't show any curvature to the shadow.
