Subject: IE 6 - some site has locked my homepage....

Spanki ( ) posted Wed, 23 June 2004 at 8:05 AM ยท edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 8:53 PM

Hi folks, some web site (that I never intentionally visited) has installed itself as my homepage in IE 6 and has managed to ghost the buttons on the Internet Options page so I can't reset it. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks, - Keith

Try going through Control Panel > Internet Options and scanning your system with AdAware and/or SpyBot Search & Destroy.

Changing it in Internet Options probably won't do much good... that's the "easy" way to fix it... and the "spyware" knows it. It may look fixed, but it will be back the next time you start IE or start your computer. You've definitely been infected with spyware. Running Adaware and Spybot should remove it.

Or, you could switch to MoZilla. BTW, Spybot and Adaware don't always get it. You may need to search for CWShredder, which targets specifically these hijackers...

I second that one Valander, I have Mozilla Firefox, and run CW Shredder, Adaware, and SpyBot Search&Destroy every night when I shut down..keeps alot of that crap off my machine.

Yep, CWShredder is the one to get! I just had the exact same problem. NOTHING worked - adaware, Norton Antivirus, Spybot, A2 - but CWShredder took care of the problem in 5 minutes. Doug

Thanks everyone - I'll grab CW Shredder (Adaware found a bunch of junk, but didn't 'unlock' the buttons).

HEY!!! I have the same problem. My homepage was changed from Yahoo to About:Blank. I've tried CW Shredder, Adware Away, SpySweeper, HiJackThis, Adaware, Spybot Search & Destroy, Trojan Killer, Spyware Blaster, Norton Antivirus, AVG Antivirus, and some online antivirus scanners (Trend Housecall, Panda, and BitDefender). Nothing has worked.
