Subject: Does Metal Fixer do everything the new DAZ-Bryce importer do?

From looking at the info on Metal Fixer, an importer for Bryce for Obj files, it seems to mostly correct the issue of Poser's export format not retaining directory locations for textures. That's only part of what's needed to do the job. Does Metal Fixer handle transparencies? I'm just wondering if this utility is a good substitute to the new DAZ importer? $2 for a PC member isn't that bad a price, though I'd be disappointed if I had to pay another fee when it's no longer Beta.

As far as I know MetalFixer doesn't handle transparencies. I haven't heard the official word but I'd cetainly expect the updates to the DAZ importer to be free to purchasers, even when it ceases to be beta.

It does not handle multiple transparencies or bumps or something with both transparency and bump. It's pretty darn good at the basics, though. And I'd be inclined to agree with RH. If you are already a PC club member, it's worth the investment.

From my very limited experience you can't dump a pz3 into DS and then export and then import into Bryce and expect it to work correctly. Have to set all of the materials et all in DS first. Grouper 1.4 collects all my textures and places them in a specia; folder for import. Still have to set ransmaps manually so it's six of one, half a dozen of the other.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

i download the bryce-obj importer. it does what it is supposed to do at least from the way I have used it so far. poser to Daz Studio and then exported as an obj (with texture files into folders). i keep all on my desktop, open bryce and import it. works faster than vue but I haven't realized how slow bryce is (especially with lots of objects in it)

What until you try an object with a lot of spikes. It's called ' Play with the Kids time ' Bryce has to calculaye each angle before it can render it.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

I'd look for a program called Grouper..it does a lot of the same things, and those who use it swear by it. Bryce can handle .obj's or even .3ds as exports from Poser, only trick is to texture the outer eyeball layer with a clear glass, or the eyes may not appear..;) a small price to pay..;)

The difference (I know have all three programs) is this Mtl/grouper can only handle one obj at a time...there is a lot of tweaking involved in the process. If you download the newest version of DAZ studio you just: load the poser file(no export) export it to obj import to bryce. That is a huge difference. I still used grouper to group the textures though...mtl doesn't do this. And this is just my preference because I replace alot of jpg textures with bryce's textures.
