Subject: Low Poly Characters in Poser

I've been trying to import some very low poly character models into Poser (under 1000) polys. I've followed tutorials I've found on getting them in and applying a P1 or P2 skeleton, but the models still bend at crazy angles, or tear at the joins between groups. The joint editor just seems confusing and incredibly complicated. Is there something I should be doing, or is it just trial and error with the joint/grouping tools?
