Subject: Bryce document resolution

Hi Everybody, This is my first post and even though Im not a newb to Bryce, I'm pretty sure this is a newb question ;-) I don't quite get the whole document resolution settings. I was wondering is it possible to render larger than 3000 x 4000 pixels??? I mean if you needed to render at 300 resolution for poster size renders sent to print, That's just not large enough. Is it possible to render at print quality resolutions? If not does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so much for any help. Hythshade

You can, but you have to Render to disk which takes a looooong time and can prove to be unstable. So if you choose to do it make sure you have the same file saved twice under different names before you start.

Use render to disk. Set your print resolution first then type the inch dimensions. Bryce will calculate the number of pixels. If you type the inches first then change the resolution from default 72 to 300 bryce will rescale the inches. Once you set this up it is a good idea to change the name of the bitmap file you want to save to something else like the name plus RTD (render to disk). Otherwise, bryce will try to save a huge bmp render over the regular render that loads with your bryce br5 file. This can make it extremely slow the next time you try to open your bryce file. In the image shown I would name the saved butmap chartrezcathedralrtd.bmp. When I look in the bryce directory that has the file I will find the chartrezcathedral.br5 the chartrezcathedral.bmp (800x600pixels) and the chartrezcathedralrtd.bmp (7500x5625pixels)

Brycetech used to have an automatic calculation progy(thingy) on their old site that you plug in your required output size and desired resulution for a poster or large print and it calculated every thing for you(what resolution you needed). Went looking for it on the new DAZ/Brycetech site and couldnt find it. Anyone know if it is in fact still there somewhere ?

Can't most printing places 'up-size' a smaller resolution picture without noticable quality loss?

Hythshade ( ) posted Fri, 30 July 2004 at 12:08 AM

They can upsize, but not really at a resolution of 72. The loss is quite significant. I honestly had never used the RTD even after all the years I have used Bryce. But then again I never had a reason to worry about the resolution till now. Thanks for all of your comments, they have been very helpful.
