No one posted this yet? Did it just happen?

KarenJ ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 12:53 AM

Wooh! Looks like it just happened - she's under New Releases, but not on the front page yet. Well spotted ;) Now get ready for the deluge of endless GIRL pics...

yeah only 15 items so far, no biggy. Trixie for The Girl , hmmmm Sixus1 has to be loving that one, since they put out a Trixie poser figure. Love how all The Girl promos now say Daz Studio Render. I think I'll go vomit my dinner now, I feel sick.

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 1:25 AM

Actually, I count 21 new items girl related already (the skybike and it's texture set are girl related, and are again available.) And Daz doesn't tell broker what to name their creations. If you have an issue with someone naming something similar, you really should take that up with it's creator. If your issue is that they did all the official ad renders with D/S, WHY? They offer a FREE program, and that's bad HOW? The crew at Daz all stayed WAY past thier normal time for the launch.. I think it was 11 pm or later their time, and they were short handed, because someone went home sick. I think they are still there activating more items as well, so until they are done, we won't even know a full item count.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 1:32 AM

Yeah I have issues. gunna open up a newstand. Developing a case of terrets syndrome too as I run around the room spouting off obsenities. just so nobody thinks any different, I am my own worst nightmare. Gareee - The Girl is a poser figure, the Daz Studio renders imply that she works only in Daz Studio, and we ALL know that there are somethings currently that just don't play nice in poser AND Daz Studio I gotta go, time to look up some more info on black helos and where JFKs brain is at.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 1:37 AM

Just a friendly reminder... a link to your picture in the gallery is ok, but if it looks like an ad and smells like an ad, it will get moved. I realize that the PAs have had the model for 2 months and want to show off, but we don't want to drown in here. Carolly Poser Coordinator

Kiera ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 1:37 AM

DAZ Studio renders don't imply anything of the kind. DAZ is just showing off their baby.

Dizzie ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 1:42 AM

she has her own listing on the menu....LOL

MC, now you know that we all use models that are Poser-compatible in way more programs than Poser. I use mine mostly in Cinema 4D, Poser 5, Lightwave, Bryce, and Studio. Studio is DAZ's program...it only makes sense, to me, that they would want people to see how their program handles models. There are enough people who will be showing the Girl in Poser. Cris

smooh ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 2:04 AM

Hmm i would like to get the girl.. Anybody tell me just how big a system strainer she is? V3 type meshes ? I might just buy her anyway though.. LOL

Cris_Palomino ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 2:14 AM

I took her into C4D and looked at the object information and it read 32,438 polygons. Cris

elizabyte ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 2:24 AM

I've already got the Toonville set. I've wanted a decent toony environment for ages. Still not sure if I want GIRL. I mean, she's damned cute, yes, but I need another toon female like I need another piercing. Sure, it'd be cool, but it's not required or anything... bonni

"the Daz Studio renders imply that she works only in Daz Studio" But you've sure seen the previews that were rendered in Poser, don't you? At least I posted some to a thread where you participated and I always mention that I render only in P5.

I hope so, because Daz Studio bites.

FishNose ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 5:09 AM

and the Toonville Bundle does not include the Toon Buggy. ... so be sure you put the right things in your cart :o) Actually I think the 'Girl Bundle' should be called the 'Girl Add-On Bundle' or some such as it is a bit misleading this way. Right now I count 26 Girl related items in THREE different places. Not too well organized! :] Fish

And she renders just fine in Poser too. This is a Poser 5 render. And for the record, allthough I AM a PA, I only just BOUGHT G.I.R.L. this morning, so she's as new to me as to anyone else.

According to the description, the Girl has "posable breasts." Does that mean she has bones in her boobs?

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 6:28 AM

Actually, she has nipple "handles" grab em and play! LOL!! Keira.. GREAT render.. could you post your mat file image for that? And Yeah, I'm back up after only 4 hours.. >sigh<. Thought of something else I want to do as a freebie for my morph set.

Oh, 7 more items added in the PC club area as well! That makes about 28 total items in one night!

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 6:34 AM

Nipple handles? LOL! She looks very pretty. And I love her expressiveness. I'm still not into toons, but this looks like a really nice one.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 6:36 AM

Sara has a similar setup (re: posable breasts), if I recall correctly. They can be used to simulate the effects of gravity, foreplay, etc.

I contemplated doing something like that with Furrette (body handles, not foreplay), but I'd have to incorporate those extra joints into all her clothing, also.

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 6:36 AM

It's weird.. she's almost like a cross between toons and real. I think Neftoon Gal is in the same catagory, and I really like both characters.

I can do better than that, Gareee. :) Go to this page where I explain how I use skin shader nodes in Poser 5. For this render I adjusted the ambience of the skin to go better with my lighting, and I used a refmap on the eye instead of gloss, but the basic idea is all in my tutorial. Enjoy!

Kiera, nice render. I was doing something like that before I discovered the V3 UV Girl. I took a break from D/L-ing everything to test this render and face I just made.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 6:51 AM

Kiera, did you achieve that subsurface-scatter effect with just the skin node, or were you using the Translucence channel, also?

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 6:53 AM

Thanks, Kiera! BTW guys, just did a no ears morph for the dress's hood.. I'll get it into it's cr2 file asap... (the hood looks great, but I dislike the "ear" thing going on with it.)

Kiera ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 6:54 AM

Just the skin node. :) It's built into the way the skin node works. If you're willing to adjust the specularity and glossiness to work with your lighting, you get some really nice effects.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 7:38 AM

OK so it was actually by mistake, coz I thought she was oncluded in the bundle... but if you plan to get both the Girl AND the bundle, buy the bundle FIRST! That will, untill august 17th, trigger a 5$ voucher you can use when you buy the GIRL :o) Of course you'll get the voucher anyway, but... just an idea :o)

Last night I said to myself ... if I see one more GIRL post I'm going to retch...and lo and behold, first thing this morning So glad she's got poseable breasts, the horse can't even walk on it's legs and they refused to fix it - a "quality" vs "cost" issue

Only a few hours to leave work, go home, connect my pc, burn my VISA, buy THE GIRL and start to render her. A question:

In what product is the texture like the used in original Kim Goosens first renders (or the most seemed)??

My first thought when I saw the girl at DAZ: I think DAZ is composed up of a bunch pedophiles. My second thought: She looks just like Koshini, but with bigger...assets. Jay

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 10:03 AM

Personally, I think she looks more like Neftoon gal then Koshini. I image her at about 19 or 20, and the none of the images in the release party thread even imply that. Course there was a huge thread decrying the same idea a few months ago, and it included Nftoon Gal, Krystal, and a whole passel of Poser characters in the criticism. Beauty, and many other things, are in the eye of the beholder.

pzrite ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 10:07 AM

You know I was confident when I got the email from DAZ that I would be strong and NOT buy this new thing. I don't need it, I don't want it, I can't afford it! But after reading all these posts I have succumbed to peer pressure and got swept up in the excitement of it all. SIGH Okay another month of not getting my bills caught up... damn! Thanks a lot you guys!

mobius ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 10:16 AM

Ahh, well, another mistiming on my part. My sales on Animlisa were going well till Girl showed up. Now she'll (Animlisa) fall off the new products pages and fall into oblivion. Of course I got enough sales so that I can afford Girl ;( Too bad I don't have more free time to do agressive marketing! mobius

joffry ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 10:28 AM

I also succumbed this morning. The way I read things, bundle, hmm sounds good. I bought, horse bundle before, came with horse, dog bundle, dog etc. david bundle came with david. Installed everything, go to use her, can't find blgirl. Hmm.. go up to daz and find that bundle doesn't include girl. I know, You Gotta Learn to Read!, so, bought girl. I am really annoyed but hey, learned a valuable lesson, costly, but valuable.

I may as well chime in too... hehe I don't usually like toony characters, but this one just called to me... Heres my 1st render using her ;) The textures are by me, and i textured the hair...it was just crying out for it!!! hope u like -SimderZ- xXx

pzrite ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 10:56 AM

Thanks Joffry, I almost made the same mistake if I hadn't read your post. I assumed the bundle included the girl, but now that I think about it I remember seeing in the bundle desciption, required items: the girl! I think that should be in big red letters for us impulsive buyers! :)

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 11:01 AM

LOL Joffry, that was EXACTELY what I did too. But as I wrote a little higher in this thread.. at least the Bundle gives you a $5 voucher, I used that one when I bought the Girl afterwards. yeah.. "learn to read" Good idea. Must try that sometimes G

I don't think Kim Goosens renders even have texture maps. I could be wrong, but those aren't Poser renders. I believe they are simple shaders with radiosity turned on in LW or C4d type renderer.

Becco_UK ( ) posted Fri, 06 August 2004 at 12:09 PM · edited Fri, 06 August 2004 at 12:10 PM

The 'girl' looks like an excellent model created by a talented artist. Such a shame that the Platinum club is now stocked with the same old boring texture add ons for the clothes. Platinum Membership isn't free - lets have some innovation injected there too!
