Found this interesting website on how you can Prefetch tweak other apps in XP..."Window Media Player has an extra switch included into its shortcut to help load it faster using XPs prefetch feature. You can try this out on some of your other applications by right clicking on the programs shortcut and clicking properties. Add /prefetch:1 to the end of the contents of the Target box."
"If this switch causes loading errors in programs that you add this to, simply remove the /prefetch:1 switch from the shortcut entry."
Add /prefetch:1 to the end of the contents of the Target box."... I tried this with my Poser shortcut and it SLOWED IT DOWN by a significant margin, so I went back and removed the prefetch switch and everything is fine again. Probably better to just let Prefetch manage this. There still may be other tweakable aspects to this in XP but they are beyond my skills and knowledge!
Yes- that's exactly what I saw with Pro-Pack. It went back to the factory default and I couldn't seem to change that, plus being slower. I do think that Poser runtimes or libraries could be "tricked" into Prefetch with the right utility. I think Hogsoft could be the people to do it since I've had my fastest Poser loading experiences after running Correct Reference Pro and then Daz Studio (which catalogs all the runtimes and libraries). I don't want to upset anyone with the DS part of it (as it did in another thread) but my REAL POINT was that software that can catalog libraries and runtimes CAN be linked "somehow", I'm certain, to Prefetch and people can see dramatically faster Poser loading times.
Hiya...
A good idea worth some further consideration...(!)
I'm always open to suggestions and ideas... (Like Python Library which Ajax asked me to write for him!)
Prefetch is complex stuff... I'm not sure if it can actually cache the required folders in a way which will benefit Poser's loading or executing speeds... but the pf file could be altered by a utility... Lot's of research required there...
The "/prefetch" switch is only useful for those applications which are expecting the "/prefetch" command parameter... I think the only command parameter Poser will take is the filename of a pzz/pz3? Could explain the strange results. Also, chances are your machines are already prefetching everything... ie. The registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory ManagementPrefetchParametersEnablePrefetcher is set to 3?
At the moment I'm busily working on some surprising technology which could revolutionise the way Poser works with utilities... So I can't start any more projects until this is on the streets!

Re: Windows 2000, I did see an apparent similiar effect after I ran Correct Reference Pro and then immediately after installed the latest release of Daz Studio- which runs off an searches, and catalogs, runtimes and libraries. (I didn't plan it that way with DS, it just happened to be the next thing I did...) So yes, I did see a surprisingly faster response when I loaded Poser Pro-Pack. I can only guess that there is a similiar mechanism in Win2K (which puts the latest things you use at the top of the "heap") But W2K doesn't have the more developed Prefetch feature that XP has, and my XP machine is WAY FASTER than my older W2K machine in many respects- which is why I have made it my primary Poser and graphics processing platform.

BTW - Here's a link to XP Tweak- I found some really good tips here, and they are simple and easy to follow.Coming from HogSoft (a NAME you can TRUST in INNOVATIVE software tools) its sounds like it will be a "Must Have"! (Heh! I will now be attacked by those who will say I am "Working For HogSoft!" and a "HogSoft Cheerleader!") ---HOGSOFT IS GOD!---- Not really- but Poser really does run a lot quicker after using CRPro.

Having gone and looked inside the "pf" files that XP creates in its Prefetch directory in Windows, (using notepad) you can see a lot of code, but also specific paths listed for how XP will pre-load Poser runtime libraries. My thought is that perhaps these pf files could be TWEAKED even better using a utility program... maybe a project for Hogsoft (Correct Reference) or Ockham (Python), ...etc. It would seem that "pre-caching" Poser libraries via a specially designed utility using a Prefetch concept could also work in other OS's as well and greatly speed up the initial Poser loading process.
