Subject: Mad at DAZ

thebert ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 1:03 PM ยท edited Sun, 17 November 2024 at 2:53 AM

I'm a very mad customer NOW! and DAZ just may lose me as a customer. Now why I'm mad. Minic 3.0 Upgrade price. I upset about it becuase I purchased Minic 2 Pro version and Now that Mimic 3 is out. There is only one upgrade not two 1 for Pro Version and 1 for the Standard version. For me it is very simple if I paid $199.95 for the Pro version and someone who paid $79.95 standard they should not get the new version for the same price. thebert

You need to let them know how you feel about it. Marque

Say that's right... that kinda ticks me off too. (And I'm in no way anti-daz)

I've called them and they said "sorry but we not going to change it" Oh, by the why If you have Minic 1.0 and have not upgrade to any of DAZ Minic you get the same price. I feel I've been RIP OFF! Also I'm not in any way anti-DAZ. My computer and CD had been stolen a month ago. So I had them burn my history to CD and it take 27 CD.

I haven't read the feature list thoroughly yet, but I wonder, is version 3 really all that much more advanced in terms of the most significant functionality? (Again, I don't really know yet.) I'm sure the viewpanes and improved GUI are very nice, but I have the now-inexpensive first version and find it pretty darned useful. On the other hand I'm not a professional animator, not even close. Anyway, just a thought.

Ah well the upgrade sure isn't worth it to M2 pro users anyway so no skin off my butt :D

I don't think the up-grade is worth it either (I have Mimic2Pro) but just to see what I would have to pay for the up-grade, I added it to my wish-list and it came up as $48.98. This is also because I am a platinum member..I don't know what it would be for those who aren't? For me this is just for "fun" and after buying "The Girl" and the bundle (Plus other things) I can't really see spending the money..when I rarely use it for anything other then sending silly things to my friends and family. LOL!

Well, then, wait until version 53 is out and then upgrade to that from your version 3 that the folks who paid for version 52 can do. LOL. I see your point. My philosopy in computers is "don't buy it until you need it". If you don't "need" mimic 3, then keep going with Mimic 2 pro and have a ball until you need the ugrade.

Geez Eric, stop pressing "submit" already... LOL I don't have any version of Mimic, although I've thought about buying it just for ocassional silly things like Genny said. But yes, this pricing structure does seem a little unfair.

I pressed it once. Multiple posts happened on another thread about the same time. I presume all is fixed now.

I've got a buddy who posts on another board, and he is just sure that the Mimic 2pro patches won't come out. I'm sure he is wrong, so I thought I'd post here to get the link so I can send it to him. Let me know asap so I can let him know. ///////////// The following is his post (over there). You can see why I'm hoping to calm him down. /////////////quoting: happen to be one of the people who has 2Pro. So the feature differences are not that significant. What is significant is the fixes they added into it. Having now talked to a few people that bought 3 already, they have all said that it's nearly identicle to 2Pro but without the bugs. Like I said in my original post, if this was truely a new product, I wouldn't mind having to pay for the "newer version", but it is simply the same thing without all the bugs that were promised to be fixed in a patch. Now it's rereleased as yet another thing I have to shell out a lot of cash for to get to work. And THAT is where I see the problem. I wouldn't care if this was CL, Daz, Microsoft, or Sixus based software. If you release a product, realize it's got some problems, promise to release a fix for it for those that already own the software, THEN turn around and say "Oh, by the way, instead fixing our screw ups, we've just given you a new version to pay for", then it's as I said, bait and switch. In the grand scheme of things, it's not like I'm having to buy a new $3000 version of Maya, or an updated version of Renderman for $9000. But when I only spent about $150 on the original product, that's HALF the original purchase price just to get fixes that they should have taken care of during alpha and beta testing. It's a matter of business ethics. Here's a prime example. HER was released. A few bugs were found, and a few improvements were made. They released HER 1.5. They didn't make you pay for the fix. They simply rereleased it with the changes. Now granted, that's a free product, so now, look at any of their other stuff that they have made additions/corrections/tweeks to. Nobody had to rebuy Designate Alpha to get the 1.5 updates. Nobody had to pay for a second copy of Scian to get the update. That's just good business. Guess I'm just getting sick of seeing "the man" get rich off from releasing flawed products then charging for fixing the flaws. Microsoft may be doing the ASA for future OSes, but ya know what, it won't matter if you bought the version outright, or paid the ASA fee, you will still be able to download your updates, service releases, and hot fixes for free during the "life time" of the software, which by MS standards is 4 years. It's been less than 4 months since Daz said they were going to release a fix for a product not even a year old, and here we are... (sorry, had to edit it for some spelling errors... I'm so dizzy I got cixelsyd on a few words) _________________
