This is one I know you will recognize. Taken this evening. There were alot of people there, but it didn't take long to get a shot of the fountain looking peaceful. I just put the vibe out there and there was a pause in traffic...hmmm..sure wish that trick worked all the time...:)

cynlee ( ) posted Mon, 30 August 2004 at 9:58 PM

oh yes! i certainly do recognize it :D how exciting! my old stomping grounds! sigh in fact i have a shot of this fountain! close up, that i took in HS, but none of the surrounding area... this is GREAT!!! :D

Knowing that at one point in time you have stood in this exact spot and seen for yourself the spear entering the bears neck as he rises from the water his face filled with rage, the horse rears in terror, his master extending himself with every ounce of strength he has, muscles bulging he drives the point home. Kinda weird huh?...that is the statue on the right hand side of the picture. If you zoom in I believe you can see it. To the left there is the man attacking the Indian in the Chieftians headress, then the huge alligator is next and I believe the last one is a mountain lion.

cynlee ( ) posted Mon, 30 August 2004 at 11:49 PM

ah... it's already getting dusk... weird? a little... but so, so cool! they say that Rome is the only place that has more fountains then the Country Club Plaza much was built after Seville, Spain & other European works of art the Plaza is so beautiful at Christmas time too

soloshado ( ) posted Tue, 31 August 2004 at 12:06 AM

Christmas isn't that far off either. Everyone is saying its going to be a snowy winter with all the moisture we've been getting. You had floods down there last year didn't you? I'll keep posting in this thread as I get around to places to take pictures.

cynlee ( ) posted Tue, 31 August 2004 at 12:23 AM

some flooding, but it absorbs & evaporates pretty quickly here ok... who knows... there might be others who are familiar with KC too here... smiley.gif will be looking foward to more! thank you so much!!

:D there it is! the reproduction of the Giralda Tower of Seville
(1/3 the size) with Faith standing at the top!
& i took a closeup of the lion's head there on the fountain :]
(makes me want to find those old high school shots again)
oh & you picked a good time to capture these with the lights coming on!

Hey hey Cindy..just an little update. Arrived at the towers at sunset and took this picture from the top of a four story parking garage across the street from the Twin Oaks...I did a zoom shot the same time and did a crop of that sunset that I'll post this evening. This side of the toweres is almost getto looking at the bottom of the buildings..I even saw some windows broken out the entrance to the building on the right, so I didn't take any ground shots at all. I have been watching the west side for a good shot. There is plenty of lawn and a playground there. More well maintained....enjoy...Raz

cynlee ( ) posted Sun, 05 September 2004 at 3:29 PM

i see my old room's window!!!! :D :D :D lol! been in that parking lot a few times... windows broken out? :P humph... & this was one of the "nice" parts of KC, use to be more of an old folks grand living, now campus apartment living for the university, that building going up in the back is new of course... playground? was a "no kids" allowed, i was an exception, i guess that was quite a few years ago... brings back lots of teen memories... people i knew there... ty so much raz!! i look fwd to more!! :]

Tedz ( ) posted Sun, 05 September 2004 at 10:01 PM

pllllllllonk! Who the heck threw that darn Water Balloon? Jeeeeeeeez! ....and look at that wee Blond Street Urchin with the Cigerette...must be all of 7 Years...now She is up on the Roof....I think it's a She....Tom Boy if You ask Me... great shots Raz....so good that You share the Old Home Town :]

soloshado ( ) posted Sun, 05 September 2004 at 10:12 PM

Ah much more than that Brian...I used to live in Austin also...lol...you wait...I'm going to be hitting Cindy up to photos next time she goes into town, see if any of my old stomping grounds are still around. Cindy...do you know that huge sink hole out by Lake Travis? Its about a 100ft deep and has water in the bottom, we used to go skinny dippin there. Nice and quiet. Beautiful spot...:)

Ok...got a couple of the NAG here for yah...nothing scenic...cause the place just isn't very pretty right now...nor will it probably ever be again...I despise the design of the new addition.

cynlee ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 12:45 AM

opps! sorry Tedz, almost got you with the balloon! :-* hehe & Raz... the one with the 45 ft. waterfall? use to be a great place for skinny dippin, Tx Parks & Rec. took it over & now charge admission, hadn't been there in years but i imagine it's not so quiet now Hippie Hollow on Lake Travis is still popular for skinny dippin, in fact it wasn't that long ago a doubledecker sightseeing tour boat went by there & all the gawkers flocked to one side of the boat to see the nudists, lol... it fell over, made the top story that night on the news, no one was hurt i do have some shots of Austin & Lukenbach in my gallery oh no... the Nelson Art Gallery! unbelievable!!

soloshado ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 12:46 AM

file_125791.jpg

Here is the front and you can see on the left side where they have completed some of the exterior wall. Yuuuupp...thats the finished wall. Need I say more?..other than the fact that the buildings skin is made completely from frosted glass so as to let the light in...lol..I guess I should reserve judgement until it is completed and take the tour. By the way...the gallery is free until construction is completed and they have the grand opening. I had a talk with the security people while I was taking these pics...:)...of course they had to come out and quiz me about who I was and what not...lots of grey haired, blue-eyed terrorists around yah know...even though we got along well and I checked out fine they still put the move on me and told me to skeedaddle on outa there...paranoid world we be livin in....Raz

soloshado ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 12:53 AM

Oh yah...they also told me I could take all the pictures I wanted of any of the classic paintings in the gallery, as long as I didn't use flash. I am thinking about experimenting and doing a shoot there. Said I could set up tripod and everything no problem...Said the only place that was restricted from shooting was in a new photography gallery that they had just opened. They didn't want anyone stealing their images...hahahaha......

cynlee ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2004 at 1:17 AM

you'd think they'd try & tie it in better with the original classical architecture! yep... it's a paranoid society we live in nowadays, but it's understandable with all that's gone on... i've been stopped before by security for taking pics... & hey... they got some great stuff in there to shoot! a lot of museum pieces, like the knight & his steed in shining armour... should take advantage of it before they change the rules! :]

Morning Tedz...figured I would post a small version of the tower I was telling you about. Let you get a look at it...of course there are unlimited perspectives and skys to match....KCTV 5 tower...This thing makes yah dizzy standing at it base...huh Cindy.

soloshado ( ) posted Tue, 07 September 2004 at 6:47 AM

The dizzy thing probably comes from maximum microwave action or somethin like that...maybe thats why I break out in blisters all over after getting close to this monster....:)

soloshado ( ) posted Tue, 07 September 2004 at 6:57 AM · edited Tue, 07 September 2004 at 6:59 AM

Actually the perspective I would like to shoot would be about fifty feet above and thirty feet to the side at ninety degrees from the very tip of this thing, looking down.. wow...that would be a fun shot.

I can see the headlines now...amateur photographer impaled on tower while swinging on rope...:)...maybe a balloon on a tether would be better?...hahaha

cynlee ( ) posted Tue, 07 September 2004 at 10:30 AM

i don't know... i've never stood at it's base before... cool shot though in the perspective, is that fog up there? lol... careful now :]

Tedz ( ) posted Tue, 07 September 2004 at 10:45 AM

I have even forgotten My email addy...but, Snoogums might remember :]

soloshado ( ) posted Tue, 07 September 2004 at 5:25 PM

Nope thats not fog Cindy those are clouds...lol...I have never shot a side shot of this thing cause it is so tall...If I can find a hill with a clear view I'll try to get one in the next few days. I thought sure you would have seen this Cindy...its some where around 46th and Main or so. Anyway...I already have a series of vertical shots I can send and side shots are in the cooker. If nothing else a side shot would work good reduced in a collage. How ever it goes is fine with me...thanks Ya'll....

cynlee ( ) posted Tue, 07 September 2004 at 5:36 PM

This one was shot from the entrance of Twin Oaks looking west...I tried to get inside but the doors were locked and people in the entry area looked at me like I was kinda crazy....hahahaha

cynlee ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2004 at 9:59 PM

the glory of it's past has moved on... use to be no kids allowed... i was the only one, an exception... no playgrounds, doormen, beautiful landscaping... those buildings across the way, much the same... the shortcut to the grocery store, Milgram's... & my junior high... sigh... thank you shado! hugz :]

soloshado ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2004 at 10:06 PM

Yes..can you imagine how many human beings have cycled through these dorms since you left?...the poor buildings are just plain wore out...but they are so huge...it would cost mucho mega millions to replace them. Lots of halls to wander as a kid I'll bet...jezzz...no other kids to play with...you were the only one?

cynlee ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2004 at 10:17 PM

ummm... well... i did have a girlfriend who lived in the basement... she was the daughter of a maitenance man... those apartments down there weren't as nice... they didn't stay very long but we did keep in touch for quite awhile... & sure, i had other friends, just had to ride my bike or walk to go see them :] & i had lots of "old kids" to go visit in the buildings... grannys with cookies!

soloshado ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2004 at 10:29 PM

hahahha....marvelous...I to was attracted to older people when I was a child...I always wanted to grow up...I had a basket on each side of the back tire of my bicycle and used to wander all day picking up pop bottles on the side of the road...talking to old folks in just about any sort of environment, gas station where I aired up my tires, I'd wind up at the drug store soda fountain with my popbottle money shooting the breeze with the soda clerk and having a rootbeer float...you know...anyone that cared to talk I was interested. Ma used to tell me curiosity killed the cat...she made a comment the other day that as a child I was constantly into everything...drove her crazy...said I haven't changed much...lol

Yah...jezzz...it has changed so much...I used to love the old plaza..with the free concerts..all the hippies runnin half naked in the park...back in '73 all I had to my name was a backpack and a guitar...I'd been hitch-hiking all across the country for a couple years after I got out of the Army in '71. Yah..those were the days..oh well..lol... that sure is a narrow boardwalk going down the middle of the tracks...
