I shot this today. It was amazingly humid out and very overcast. I mean, if I stopped walking my glasses fogged up to the point where it was hard to focus the camera. Anyway, I came across this guy when I stopped to clean my glasses in a meadow.

The first image has just a slight unsharpen mask in PS (150-0.3-0).

This version has the same unsharp mask but I happened to run the Auto Color (which I almost never do) 'just for the heck of it'. The green is accurate in the first image. It was hard to see him or anything else green in that meadow. Not sure which image I like best though. Which do you prefer? MM

no way can i choose. I gotta tell you how much I LOVE this capture! It's magical! It's face and eyes are so full of expression. and so are its hands...so graceful. and it's so aware of you.! ok...i'll try to pick. if you told me i could only have one of these, i would choose the 2nd one. i think the deep burgandy gives it better contrast. Or maybe it's because this would match perfectly in my bedroom which is burgandy and green...and i have an empty spot on my wall. :) if it were me, i would post them both!!!

Hmmm...It's hard but I think I too would go for the second. Cracking capture

Hmmm ... I think I like the first one. I love the subtlety of the greens. There's a harmony there that isn't in the second one. In the 2nd one, the bug just stands out. Cool in its own right, but in the first one, the way it all blends in is great. -=>Donald

First one..... the greens are warm.... in the second the colors are too cool for my tastes.

I am, therefore I create.......

They are both excellent but I feel that the second one doesnt look natural; Although in the second one the insect does stand out more,in nature it is designed to blend in.

Oh this is a toughie. Actually for me the insect is visible in both pictures. I think it all come down to weather one perfers the green version or the red version. The red seems pretty accurate except for the color of the mantis wings which are a bit too red I think. So I'm gonna go with the green version. AWWW what the heck post 'em both! Bsteph

LostPatrol is right... nature design the little guy to blend it. so I'd prefer the first one...and I agree with what michelle said about the second one being too cool. Wonderful photo though!
