Subject: Mover for Vue 4 or Mover for Vue 4 Pro?

Ajax ( ) posted Thu, 09 September 2004 at 8:33 PM ยท edited Thu, 06 February 2025 at 6:13 PM

I have Vue 4 and it looks like I may have just won a copy of Vue 4 pro in a competition. I'm thinking of getting Mover. If I get Mover for Vue 4 Pro, will it work for Vue 4 as well? What are the differences between the two versions of Mover anyway?

There is a version of Mover 4 on the distribution CD's for VuePro; but you need to have a valid Mover 45 serial to install and activate it (This may have changed with the release of Mover 5, btw I got Mover 4 back at Vue 4.01, and did the upgrade with the release of 4.22 and Pro 4.4 something...). The differences are fundamentally the differences in the two apps. Pro has the support for the wind effects for the plants, the plant editor support, Python support, etc. And of course 5 supports all the P5 dynamic goodies. You will like VuePro, particularly if you animate.

It looks like it's going to be great. I'm really looking forward to a lot of the pro features. I don't really understand what you mean about mover for pro having support for the pro features such as plants and python. I thought mover was really just for getting Poser animations into Vue. I'd pictured it as taking a Poser document with animation and translating it into animated Poser figures in Vue, so in what way does mover interact with the Vue Pro features?

The Pro version of Mover 4 has the support for Python scripting and the wind effected plants for the RenderCow system. A couple of people I know tried to use their existing Vue Cow setup with Pro....and found it did Bad Things, at least whenever the managed to get more than a CTD or BSOD (The two apps Cows do co-exist very nicely on the same renderboxes, though..at least as long as they are on different ports. They just are not cross compatible). It's the same with the Mover 4 add-on version that comes with Pro; standard Mover 4 isn't compatible with VuePro; even if you somehow managed to beat VuePro into loading it, all it will do is break the install. Badly (I had a bad install, and just for fun I copied the relevant Mover 4 files out of Vue 4 into Pro. Boooooom....) The Mover add-on is -mostly- just a Poser plugin, but there is some additional animation support features added; 'Mover' is the actual name of the basic animation system that is native to the Vue 4VuePro line. That's why the add on appeared as 'Mover 4', not just 'Mover'. The Mover 5 package may have been coded so that it -does- intstall to either package, and has dual code tracks so that the installer loads the correct version. Does that make any sense?

Ah, so the differences are caused by the need to handle network rendering differently for different versions of Vue. Yes that makes sense. Thanks :-) On the e-on site, they sell Mover 5 for Vue 4 and Mover 5 for Vue 4 Pro separately. It looks like if you want both you have to pay for both versions, which seems a bit silly. I was hoping there'd be some way I could buy mover now, use it with Vue, then use it with Vue Pro when it comes, but it looks like you can't do that.

I think this is a perfect question for E-on directly. Or for the E-on registered user forum. Where people from E-on do have an eye to. Much better than us guessing what could be and what not. Congrats by the way for winning the copy - excellent price.
