Subject: Totally Confused

I've installed several files for P5 recently, and using the information in the FAQ, I got all the files to go into the right directories. But when I open P5 nothing I installed showes up. Any idea what could be causing this? Also how do you use .MAT files? Thanks ~Ra

Are you not finding the files or is there just no picture of what they are? You may need to convert .rsr thumbs to .png...but (um..not that I really know that much) I'd need more info to come up with a better idea as to the exact nature of the problem you're experiencing. Also...if you have multiple runtimes set up you will have to load those individually to get the files to show up. MAT files in the Pose folders are quite easy to use. Just make sure the model, clothing, hair etc is loaded...and you have the one the MAT is for selected, and double click on the MAT file or the little arrow to apply it.

On some things I get the little dude shrugging, which I know (roughly) the cause of that. But on others it's just not there period. And I only have one Runtime folder in my P5 directory.

Open your Poser 5 directory in Windows Explorer and make sure everything is spelt correctly. For example, I have sometimes downloaded freebies from German users who have set up the directory structure with the German spelling, e.g. instead of "Poses" its "Posen". Or sometimes freebie makers will put the whole runtime directory structure inside a containing folder called "My Freebie" and you have to pull the contents out of that and into the main P5 directory. Aside from that, double check your file extensions. For example, a .pz2 file will only show up if it's in the Pose folder - if you put it in Props by mistake, it won't appear on the list.

If you're installing from zip files, as long as you have use folder names ticked there shouldn't be a problem except if you have the problem with freebies as karen1573 says. With Poser 5 you don't need multiple runtimes as it handles standard folder hierarchy much better. multiple runtimes is a throwback to P4 and isn't really necessary in P5
