I'm reading Real World Bryce 2, and have gotten to the chapter on the Material World, because I really want to understand how this program works, but am missing out on this fundamentally important premise?

deep question... the material editor is explained pretty fully at brycetech.com (I think the link now is http://brycetech.daz3d.com) if that doesnt explain it well enough let us know :) BT

First question is are you using Bryce 2? Or a later version like Bryce 4 or 5?
