Donald Excellent work, love the transitions you have used, really fab with 5.1 digital surround he he. Even better with a 2Mbs connection! Didnt need the plug in. I use Proshow gold 2 and it is an excellent program, with excellent features. I downloaded the trial version and quickly realised it was well worth the bucks for the full version. I make the odd show for a local camera club, not quite got to this standard yet. One thing I have came up agenised though is that there are copyright issues with public performances and the music (if using copyrighted music) unless you have a licence to use it.
Thanks all! Really appreicate the help. 'chelle - I'm sure I can convince the deisgners to loan us a thing or two. A little leather ... a little latex ... you ... me .. Cynlee with her popcorn. Ohhhhhhh....sounds like a party. ;) hehehe LP - Yea, the music was just what I used for myself. If I was going to put them up on my site, I'll do one of 3 things: (1) Write my own (yea, like I have time for that), (2) Use music in the public domain or ask permission or (3) find musicians on the web who'd be willing to let me use their music. Randy - Pretty straightforward. Created the pxc file, then just made a quick, basic webpage with script info at the top. Did notice it only worked from my webserver. Couldn't test it locally on my desktop. -=>Donald
Before I installed the plugin I thought "how's this different from a javascript slideshow?". But this is very cool. But.. seeing this raised a question. I've seen several topics here about copyright and images and how we're afraid someone steals them and uses them for their own gain. What about the music you used? If you're goint to use that on your site (or on a DVD to sell your work), are you going to pay royalties?

Ok ... lets try this again before a firestorm spills over into the forum about copyright.
This was a test of the software and how it played on an average system, pure and simple. It is not representative of what I would do if I actually do it. This is the slide show that I last created for myself and hence has music that I liked. It was not made with the intention of putting it on my site or selling it in any way shape or form. It simply was a show that was already done and available.
I am not now, nor have I ever been of the mind to make money using someone elses copyrighted material without permission and I won't be starting now. Again, this was a test of the technology. Nothing more.
Tedzo - And see, here I was making a special slideshow for you and now you've gone and upset me and everything and now I feel so unappreciated. Oh the horror of this cruel world!! sniff

Donald I think you answered the question earlier in the thread anyway. As a foot note Im sure that you could get music as a kind of trade off possibly from a local up and coming band/artist. I have done this with a local band that wanted to use one of my images, so we agreed that they could use my image for a CD cover and I could use a selection of their music for a slide show, its food for thought anyway. So in the end we both got something from it, I credited them for the music and they credited me for the image. LP

Alas, 3DGuy brings up a valid point - Especially in this day and age of lawsuits - it is really risky to post anything on your site - be it music or image without getting permission from the creator [or material owner], even if you are not making a profit from the proceeds. We all found this out after hundreds of "club" members were taken to court via the Napster fiasco. I agree with LP, that many local bands [or even search the web for new and upcoming bands] would love to get their music out there by supplying you a sample of their music for your slide show, in turn you can supply them with your slideshow to showcase their music on thier site - of course this is a kewl way to promote your photography :) Great job of composing the slideshow - but, Gosh, I hate to be the bad guy here - I am afraid that changing the music is something that needs to be addressed - even if it is just on your personal web site :[ There are also some excellent "computer generated" music out there - Spike - One of Rosity's Mods - created some outstanding music for the Rosity DVD. Above is a link to a site that offers Royalty Free Music downloads :)Didn't want to create a firestorm :) Just wanted to hear your thoughts about it. The technology looks cool so far.

Since the slideshow is posted on Donald's site and ONLY a "link" to Donald's site is posted here - this is in no way a problem with Rosity's TOS :] However, it is a great way to open a discussion pertaining to copyright issues - As to what Rosity considers copyright material. Again, I stress that Donald's posting of a "link" to the slideshow on his personal web site is in no way a Rosity TOS matter:) And, any references to copyright music and its usage, in no way reflects the opinions of Donalds slideshow - which is amazing! 3D - Don't worry about it. Was just trying to nip any weirdness in the bud. We know how these things sometimes go here. Didn't want to be the cause of World War III. :) Cyn - Ooooo ... aren't you the bossy one. All stern and "don't you dare"-ish with the flashing eyes. Woof. :) hehe Tedz - You lead such a wonderfully strange life. manly hugz :) -=>Donald
phooey! the Photodex Presenter doesn't like me... i tried half a dozen times... it tries to connect to the Photodex server after i click yes i want to install... & i keep getting this message... "the request to download the installer failed, please check your internet connection & try again"... anyone try this with dial-up? i'm sure it was sniff great! oh well... here piggy, piggy, piggy...
Cynlee Do you know anyone that can D/L the trial program and save it to disk for you? That will enable you to view the show without having to D/L the plug-in. I would send you it but it would take a week or so from here. The trail program is about 10 Meg. If you like this sort of thing Proshow and Proshow gold are both excellent programs and are available boxed via online or phone purchase from Photodex LP
Cyn It is the whole trial program that is 10 Meg dont know how big the plug-in is, but would think it would be a few hundred k + Sorry if I have confused the issue. Simon

You can actually download just the plugin. It's about 2MB if I remember correctly. But still, the slideshow itself is pretty huge (over 20MB). I think I can make it pretty small by limiting the pre-rendered size of the pictures. Didn't do that on this one. Link above is the page that tells you how to do an install of the plugin manually. -=>DonaldThis site uses cookies to deliver the best experience. Not -that- kind of exposing, Cyn! Put down the popcorn and wipe that smile off your face! Some people.Anyway, a little background. Whenever I finish processing a shoot, I'm then faced with choosing the images I want to put into my online gallery. The way I do this is to make a slideshow of it and then watch that 6-12 times before I am happy with the images I've chosen. Somewhere along the line, I got bored and started adding music and stuff to it to make my multiple viewings a bit easier. :) Anyway, these are normally for my consumption only.
Recently, I thought I'd try out the web slideshow option of the software I use and now I'm thinking about maybe adding slideshows to my website. I wanted to see how well these play on the average system so I was hoping you guys might be able to take a look and let me know.
When you go to the above link, unless you've seen this type of slideshow before, it will go to download a plugin (it's the slideshow viewer). This is about a 2mb file I think. After that, the slideshow will load. Click on the image in the center to start it.
I recommend this for broadband users only, although dialup users are always welcome to try. This makes me kind of nervous. As I said, these are made for me and have some images that I've actually cut as not being good enough. But, oh well ... let me know what you think.
This is also kind of a bandwidth hog, so I'd like to ask that you guys not post this link or tell anyone outside of this forum about it. Thanks guys.
