Subject: How to Prepare for MarketPlace-question

  1. How to Prepare for MarketPlace-question by FuneralLaugh on 12/5/04 22:08 [Printer Friendly] [Delete]

I checked the Renderosity Info>Selling Products page to try to get info on how to prep for selling in their MarketPlace. But, it didn't have what I was needing when it came to some other questions, so I hope someone can help me out with a tute or perhaps link me elsewhere.

I'm mainly wanting to sell textures for M3 and V3. I found one item for sale that was just that, and viewed the Read Me to see how they set stuff up. Very simple, considering there was no pz3 or oddball Poser related extensions to create. BUT... what if my texture is best viewed with a specified morph? ie: let's say I do a monkey texture. Well, it's best viewed when I morph my character as such. Now, I'm ready to sell this. I know I create the texture and it's path, obviously, but how do I go about saving the other extensions for the morph and such and zipping it for others to load?

I'm not a pro when it comes to knowing exactly what to do with the Poser extensions, only the texture maps. So if I want to sell Monkey Boy, how do I locate these morphs and such that I had created for the character to get them set for loading up to sell?

Thanks in advance for all your quick replies!

I'd suggeest that this post be moved to product showcase Forum so that merchants who know the ropes can help.

Onr thing I do know is that you can't redistribute anything you didn't make yourself... so your morphs must all be your own (none of them from DAZ) even in combination. You should check the DAZ FAQs for how and what they allow to be distributed and preferred formats.

Thanks. I'm aware of the distribution rules, just not aware of how TO distribute the morphs. I don't know how to grab the cr2, pz3, etc and get those loaded for others to use, and any other necessary files. I may even need to know if it's alright for me to use morph packs to make a custom figure; if it's alright for me to use (let's say) M3 head morph pack and use a preset, Poser's magnet, AND dial adjustments to the head, or if I can only use Poser's magnet and dial adjustments. And how to grab those adjustments for distribution.

I'm just trying to figure out the answers to these questions myself (again... got rusty about a lot of this stuff in my absence). Some of the things I've done for research are: -Check out the marketplace. There are products that will help you create your MAT files, etc. And they're less expensive than you might think. -Do a search in Poser Tech, Merchant, and any other relevant forums. Use very specific terms, as the Poser forum has a LOT of stuff to sift through. -Check out DAZ's FAQ on how to safely and legally redistribute files made for their characters. Unfortunately, I went there looking for some of their stripped CR2's and texture templates and they seem to have gone poof or at least the links aren't where they used to be. I think it's from their recent site revamping. I hate being less than helpful, but since I'm rusty I don't want to give exact answers and end up being wrong. Good luck!

I may even need to know if it's alright for me to use morph packs to make a custom figure; if it's alright for me to use (let's say) M3 head morph pack and use a preset, To make the Daz dial morphs distributable you must make a pz2 pose file for others to use. Go to Daz and buy Injection pose builder,it is very easy to use, all you have to do is save your morphed figure as a figure(cr2) in your poser library, and then open up that figure in injection pose builder and it will create your needed pz2 files for distribution. to make mat poses for your textures is much easier, apply all your new textures to your figure, and then save it to your figure library in poser. open the cr2 file in word pad and extract the materials information and save it as a pz2 file. This is what it looks like: (Always start with this code first) { Version { Number 4 } figure { Materials go here you get them from near the bottom of the cr2 file)they look like this: material SkinBody { KdColor 1 1 1 1 KaColor 0.0588083 0.0588083 0.0588083 1 KsColor 0.0588083 0.0588083 0.0588083 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 31 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 reflectThruLights 1 reflectThruKd 0 textureMap "Runtime:Textures:your map here.jpg" Look at other mat poses to get the idea and that's all there is to a matpose, you can use mat pose edit to do this, but it is just as easy by hand :0) Hope some of that helped you. Hmmm... seems like more work than what I had anticipated. maybe I should just create a texture map WITHOUT having to morph the subject, and let the customer's imagination play through with how to rearrange it to their enjoyment. But, I haven't really seen anything of the such, perhaps one. There are "base" photos that can be used, and one that I came across that had a couple of base photos along with the put-together template, but I wasn't wanting to give out the photos of my naked body (sorry, I'm a shy'un), just the rendered-out texture setted template that will be highly textured where it won't appear to be my body, but fleshy or mangled. So, since I now decided not to worry about morphs, how about transparencies? Do I follow 3DZone's advice of "open the cr2 file in word pad and extract the materials information and save it as a pz2 file"? Or just go ahead and make a path to Textures and place only the jpgs in that file without cr2's or pz2's?

Ive worked with INJmagic but not yet with INJbuilder. INJmagic crated INJ/REM files arent working for me cause 1- they seem to be only meant to be used locally, creating a large (9+MB from what ive seen) associated folder with files the INJ/REM need to work. Files ive never seen in retail customer packs so obviously they arent using this 2- they only remember dial settings that were applied to DAZ morphs, and ignore all my custom created morphs. So, how does builder compare to magic in these categories? If not builder, does anything allow you to make a one click set of INJ/REM that sets not only DAZ morphs values, but custom morphs? Anything out there to make INJ/REM files out of only custom morphs, no DAZ morphs? Thanks

I think you have to hand edit the file to put in custom morphs, but don't quote me,cause I have never done it,a good person to ask would be Thorne or Sarsa,or Momcat,I know these are a few that do custom morphs on their characters,so maybe they can help you :0) The3dZone

Since I think my question was overlooked, allow me to bring it up again (copy/paste):

Sorry for being a hard-ass. Just seemed like this was skipped.

most users prefer mat poses IMO,so I would say extract the texture information from the .cr2 file and create a mat pose(.pz2)file. it's alot simpler for the user than to manually add the maps to the figure, especially gen 3 figures, because there are so many materials in the list. The3dZone

Thanks, 3DZ. When I get home this evening, I'll save this thread as a future reference. Greatly appreciated.
