without a doubt you should look at sanctum art's "RDL7" package also' stonemason makes some great gritty industrial sci fi set peices

Nother vote for Sanctum Arts's stuff, and Stonemason's. There's a good building set here by Platypus, it's called Decotech, which has a lot of options for walls, floors, doors and that sort of thing. A sort of Cyberpunk concrete jungle look.

Definitely look at Stonemason's stuff, there's nothing to beat it i.m.h.o.

In my opinion it will depend on what look your going for. Sanctum art's stuff is very good, pretty expensive, and can be a resource hog. Stonemason's stuff I belive is less of a resource hog, darker in theme and mood, and there is more of it. davorama's stuff at daz is lighter (resource wise), and more versitial (especialy with the modular systems), and less expensive. He also has stuff at his website including alternate textures for some of his stuff as well as more items. Personally if your going more for a comic look and feel I'd say Davorama would give you the best versitility, and augment it with Stonemason's stuff and Dystopia stuff (here and at DAZ). Now i dont mean to put down Davorama's stuff, its more realistic than "comic book" art, but i think it would be a better investment, for the versitility and not as demanding on your computer. If your going for as realistic as you can possibly get, id say up-grade your computer, get Sanctum art's and stonemasons stuff, and become intimatly fimiliar with the ins and outs of the P5 material room.

This is all just my opinion but I don't really like the look of the RDL7 stuff. In all the promo's and renders I've ever seen it just looks to darn 'busy'. Stonemason has some really nice stuff, but so far it's most useful for limited run images or in scene filler. Stuff like promo shots or gallery images. The Decotech sets here at rendo are pretty cool builder sets, but they can work best in interior scenes. Davorama's Sci Fi Construction Set at DAZ and his DreadWorks/Ultimate Sci-Fi Settings sets on his www.beyondbent.com site are very useful for comic book style scenes. You can really load them up in a scene and get Poser to render them. I own chunks of most of these sets and I find that mixing and matching is also very useful so as your budget allows build up a nice library of props and figures to set your scenes in and good luck.

I'm another fan of Davo's SFCS, and expansion, as well as his older dreadworks. My only problem with his stuff is the textures are a bit lacking in some of the pieces. (Poser 5 mat room can fix that up) They are incredibly versatile and can be mixed up well. The biggest selling point for me is the low price. (I won Davo's stuff in a contest before he started selling at Daz... so free is a very good price ^_^) Stonemason IMO is one of the most talented merchants out there, his stuff is all amazing. As they said though, his SF sets aren't NESSISARILY as versitile.

You should be aware that "RDL7"
is a completely modular set that has MANY, MANY
separate peices.
he crams nearly ALL of them into his promo renders
but you have the option of just loading a back wall
and a chamber bed etc for your particular scene
the mistake many people have made is loading the entire set
when their camera is focused on one little corner.
and his texturing detail has NO equal inthe poser world
IMHO :-) Message edited on: 01/11/2005 06:57

Well, it all depends on what you're looking for, doesn't it?;) I don't own any of the packages mentioned above, but I did snatch Stonemason's Level 19 Bay Doors freebie at DAZ and it's spectacular work, I'm highly impressed by his work (and jealous as hell;)). RDL7 either grabs you or it doesn't, it looks rather unique, which may not be a good thing since that makes it less versatile. Davo's Sci-Fi Construction Set looks pretty tempting, except for one flaw (sorry Davo): very obvious texture tiling. Maybe that bothers you, maybe not. Personally, I can't stand blatant tiling. But you can fix it in post, or even copy the textures themselves and rework them a little in Photoshop or whatever to create variations. But out of the box, the tiling is glaring even in the promos. Don't rule out freebies. I have some stuff on my site. It could use better texturing, but it's stuff that I haven't seen anywhere else and it's free to use in commercial art if that's your goal. And who did the Antares bridge set? lalverson, maybe? Incredible piece, anyway, and I don't think there are commercial restrictions on that, either (though I could be wrong).

i have the Decotech modules and I use them very often, incredible versatile to build corridors, halls, entrance sections, energy pipes and much more. it is for interior scenes and doesn't consume much memory. you may have a look at my freestuff section as well. i have many wall elements, some consoles and such stuff. most of them low poly.

Yeah X2000 your freebies are great! Thanks. Someday I need to dive into all the freebies I've downloaded to rediscover some gems.

Joe, I've used your stuff many times. Great stuff thanks!
