Poser Python Scripting F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Sep 18 2:50 am)

We now have a ProPack Section in the Poser FreeStuff.
Check out the new Poser Python Wish List thread. If you have an idea for a script, jot it down and maybe someone can write it. If you're looking to write a script, check out this thread for useful suggestions.

Also, check out the official Python site for interpreters, sample code, applications, cool links and debuggers. This is THE central site for Python.

You can now attach text files to your posts to pass around scripts. Just attach the script as a txt file like you would a jpg or gif. Since the forum will use a random name for the file in the link, you should give instructions on what the file name should be and where to install it. Its a good idea to usually put that info right in the script file as well.

Subject: ProPack python and tk/tcl versions

I'm re-writing alot of stuff for pro-pack compatibility.
I found a Python 1.5.2 distribution that has tk/tcl 8.0 which turned up a number of incompatibilities in my code.

Ockham said Pro-Pack was version 1.5
Is it 1.5.0 or 1.5.2? And what version of tk/tcl is with pro-pack?

tia,
ken

From PP, 'sys.version' yields: 1.5.2 (#0, Oct 11 2000, 18:29:03) [MSC 32 bit (Intel)] I'm not sure what the equivalent command in Tkinter is, but in the PythonLib folders, there are two folders named: TCL8.3 and TK8.3

Perfect, thanks. for tk use 'TkVersion' but they must be 8.3. Are there any major differences in Curious Lab's PoserPython methods? Anything to watch out for? thanks again, ken

In PP, TkVersion -> 8.3 The User's Guide for PP-sr3, which lists all the PoserPython methods for PP, is still available for download at CL's website (if you haven't looked at it already). I don't think there's any major difference between the PoserPython methods in PP vs P5, but I haven't written enough scripts to say that I've adequately sampled both flavors. Have fun...

Got it. Thanks.
