Would it be possible to lock the thread with an anouncement that it is being moved to * forum when it is moved, so we know where it has gone?

Just becuase a thread is moved, does not mean it should necessarily be locked.

Thanks for the reply. I meant that the thread would be left in the original forum, locked, then copied to the proper forum with a notice of where it was moved to. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

When a thread is moved, it is actually moved. It's not a new copy. We just change the ForumID field for all the posts. It would actually be much more work to try to leave a second copy behind.

Thanks for the explaination. If it can't be done, no problem.

Well now, I didn't say that. :) Probably a reasonable solution is for the mod to post a new message noting that the thread has been moved. That accomplishes the goal without wasting so much space in the database.

I was asking, because there are some forums that I don't visit very regularly, and if a thread gets moved there, I don't see it for a long time. Whatever is decided is fine, just a suggestion. Thanks.
