Subject: Rendering Weirdness

This is weird! I have changed the texture of a wall from brick to stucco but the rendered image shows the non-selected brick texture. (It may actually be showing both textures, with the stucco showing through faintly - I can't be sure.) Q1. How can the render show a texture that isn't selected and which doesn't show in display mode? Q2. How can I delete redundant textures from the RenderMaterialsTexture-Map drop-down menu?

Sometimes one forgets to select the part of an object being textured, such as selecting the preview of an object to apply the text to. A quick way to deal with this issue is to check the block "texture changes applies to whole figure" on the render/materials menu. The only times you don't apply the texture to the whole figure is if you want to apply no text or another text to another part(s) of the model/prop/figure. This is the case with Michael and Robby; different texts apply to the head than the body.

Huolong: Many thanks, but this isn't it. The texture is correct on the screen in it goes wrong when rendered only. I have checked "applies to whole figure" and have just repeated the process to be sure. It is now apparent, with different lighting, that both texturtes are being rendered.

Is it possible that you have left in place a bump map that doesn't match your text?

This is a long shot, & I only mention it because it happened to me just yesterday and threw me for a couple of render cycles. Following a render, I had pasted a picture in the background and then subsequently unchecked "DISPLAY/SHOW BACKGROUND PICTURE" to get rid of the picture rather than clicking on "CLEAR BACKGROUND PICTURE" which is what I intended. I had forgotten that this will hide the pic in preview mode but will stick it back in during the render. Although the background pic had disappeared in Preview mode, on the next couple of renders, after changing a map, I still had the old textures peaking through the transparent areas. Wasn't until I moved the camera for the third render that the problem became apparent. DOOH! :0 As I said, a "longshot" but it just sounded kinda similar. If we were placing bets, I'd put my money on Huolong's guess.

Yes, you have it. The answer was a bump left switched on. This was PERVERS' initial suggestion, for which I am endebted. Many thanks to all. By the way, any idea how to delete redundant textures from the menu?

Save, exit, startup, and call up the PZ3 again. Poser saves all the textures for all the files (PZ3's) you make in the same session. It gets serious after you have used a canoma prop.
