Subject: Making clothing fit??

Ok clothes that aren't supposed to go onto certain characters right? Well how do we make them fit? Is there a program that can do this or anyway in poser to do this. Playing around with the scale because its not big enough seems to create problems elsewhere on the clothing, and then on top of things you cannot conform the clothing because it seems to not go in the right places. So how does one fix problems like these? If a picture is needed to know what I am talking about I can post one.

Many are the ways. The folks I talk to like a workflow that is, basically; Zero the new figure and the clothing you are fitting. DON'T conform. Use scale dials and magnets to get the best fit you can. Now export the clothing mesh. Get a "stripped" copy of the new figure's cr2 and edit the object call so it asks for your new clothing mesh instead of the figure mesh. (This cr2 is either a copy of the figure with all the morphs removed as well as, usually, fingers and head; or a similar "base cr2" distributed with the figure, or an item of clothing for that figure that includes the same body parts.) Open this new character, conform it, then tweak the joints using the joint parameter pallet until it works nicely. Depending on the clothing, this step may not be needed at all. But of course, you will need to fix the materials anyhow, and do some tidying up of names and anything else you missed in the previous steps. You can also use magnets to work up some body shaping morphs at this stage, too. Clear as mud?

How do you open a cr2 file to edit it? Is there a seperate program that opens these. And when you say get a stripped copy of the new figure do you mean the character itself or the clothing? Thanks :D

Um... The mesh, the file with the extension .obj, is the shape of the shell. The .cr2 or .pz3 or .hr2 or .pp2 is a text file with instructions on how to take that mesh, bend it, and apply textures to it. http://home.earthlink.net/~nomuse/tute2/mouse.html Anyhoo...any text editor can open a .cr2 (for that matter, any text editor can open an .obj -- but rarely is that useful). And the idea here, is that clothing is, basically, the same guy or girl with bigger skin. It needs to have the same joints in the same places, so where ever the girl walks, the pants and sweater also walk. Some recent figures, like The Girl, have a "base" cr2 included in the download. Otherwise, the job is to remove all the morphs and the textures. Or...find a clothing item that already fits, and borrow the "bones" (for that is what much of a cr2 is) from that. That help?

In P4 it's pretty easy once you get the knack of using the conform button without too much struggle it becomes second nature, and you do need the right cloths that go with the character you are using. V3 has her own clothing line as with M3. P5 have no clue how cloths conform in it. The easiest way to conform any clothing is to zero down the legs and body to get the cloths to fit any character. Keep hitting the conform button each time until the cloths stick to the figure you are using. Thats what I do in P4.

The biggest problem I am having is I want to learn how to do my own things. I surf the net looking for answers and don't seem to find much. I have tons of questions and have done my share of racking up library fines, for keeping Poser books out way too long lol. But they don't explain everything. I wish I could just have a seasoned user teach me, and then I would have to say I would fall in love for them doing that for me, because I really am interested in learning this program inside and out lol. I would have to say I have spent months so far on trying to learn just about everything I can about poser. I really want to learn what all the files are, how to edit and create my own, or editing the cr2 file... I open it in a text editor, and see like a code that really doesn't help me if i can't find a tutorial on what the different stuff means, and how to change it and effect the character, and they why it effects the obj. Like for example Im trying to make clothing fit on a character that the clothing is not made for. But I do not understand how to do this. Then I am trying to add texture that I created to another piece of clothing for the same character, but when I apply it in the Render material options, it didnt seem to work. So i spend hours trying to figure out why... still trying at this point lol.

Oh, ok, I get ya. Maybe you should look into taking a class in Poser? or figure modeling? I just like sticking to rendering, makes life easier. :)

Ive been looking into classes but they are somewhat expensive. So i hope that I can learn most of it on my own or through sources. Hopefully lol

This is why I stick to rendering & animations, I can just barely do that. LMAO.

hehe well im looking to make a music video, so lots of animation going to be involved, which is why I hope that in the next couple of months I learn how to do everything that I want to do.

Good luck. :) would love to see the video when it comes out. that's an lot of work what you want to do with the figures! Straight animation is so much easier than trying to do it in Poser. :)

Well, on the books.... B.L. Render's book is great once you've gotten over the hump (if you haven't messed around inside a .cr2, this is not the book to start with.) "Secrets of Figure Creation with Poser5" On other hand, the Shamus Mortier book is ....well....let me be kind and simply note that few people recommend it. I've seen a new book at Amazon. Not sure if it is any good, but it is Charles River...
