Subject: I need some help with materials and mats

I have read the book over and over but I still can not seem to be able to figure out how to apply mats. I can do it with Poser 5 and they work just fine. I have tried to apply mats over and over and they just will not work. As far as materials there is certainly not enough enclosed with Vue 4 E.

I can mess around and bring in materials by going through the ajust on the materials but I can only bring in a mixed item not a true mat or map (not sure of the term I need to use).

I have added the image into the same folder I have the object in and it certainly dose not work that way. I have searched the e-on site to and found nothing. The only tutorial that mentions mats is a bad link.

You can't use earlier .veg files either. That leaves you with little to use when using Vue 4 E. Can anyone tell me how to get mats to import? I certainly am not going to invest any more on this program, if I am limited to just the files that e-on puts up for sale, when I have hundreds already. Is there any where that I can find a simple tutorial? I really like Vue but I don't want to be tied to just there files and only the files that go with the version you happen to have.

I am glad to see that others are having trouble with this to.

Ok, each model you create in Vue or import comes with a default material. We agree on that, right? You have an icon of the material either in the top right corner (little window) or with F6 you get the material summary windows. Wherever, you simply do a right click on the material icon and get the question wether you want to load, edit and whatever want to do with the material. Select what you want and continue. If you edit a material you can select under coloring mode a button "texture picture". Then you select a bitmap from your disk and have what you want. Regarding the earlier veg files. If you have this problem i assume you are on Mac. Is that right? If so, the first versdion of Vue d'Esprit on Mac was version 4. No earlier versions available and therefore no earlier versions of veg files. We can be unhappy about that, but thats how it is. What i did regarding this was to install Vue d'Esprit on a Windows box at work and convert the old stuff there to version 4. Open it and re-save them. Thats all it needs.

I am using a PC. Where or how did you convert them. Sorry, I am really a novice at this stuff so please bear with me? Where or how do you convert the older.veg files? I read some other questions. So, I went in to both CD's and could not find any converters. Is there a little prog that will do it?

There is no converter on either cd, you shouldn't need one either, I've had no problems opening old .veg files in Vue 4 Esprit (Vue 4 Pro is totally different but since you're not using that it's not an issue). When you say it's not opening them what is it doing? Is it giving you an error or just not doing anything at all? Maybe tell us the steps you're going through so we can understand what it's not doing?
