Subject: Is it normal for noobs to be too chicken to post in the galleries?

ghelmer ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 8:38 PM · edited Sun, 15 December 2024 at 4:29 AM

And more importantly how long should I allow that fear to govern me and my life?? I've posted wip's here and all but never to the galleries. Am I a wimpy wuss or what? Later!! G teh 0R1G1N@L G_MAN!

I'd say it's absolutely normal, lol, especially when you go to the gallery, and see the amount of talent in there... For me, I look at them and have to talk myself into posting anything. I still consider myself a n00b, and I've been here for a bit. ;)

If you don't want to post in the Poser gallery, why not try the Hobbyist or the Beginnery galleries? That's where a lot of people post until they have a comfort level with the Poser galleries. If you do a lot of postwork or use a mixure of different software, the Mixed Media gallery is another possibility. Just a thought. And, yes, I agree with MorriganShadow. It's perfectly normal.

any gallery is intimidating... perhaps if there was a "Crap that looks like it was produced by rabid dyslexic hyenas" Gallery, I'd maybe feel some sort of comfort zone. It's weird, I'm A-OK posting up a pic here in the forum. The galleries Poser or otherwise is a different story. I've been lurking here in these parts for a long time and still! I have issues I guess! G Thanks for the input btw!!! :)

The Beginners gallery was created just for you. I posted there for a long time before I stirred out into the other galleries. Here's another why to gain a comfort level. The Challenge forum has a monthly challenge. Anyone can post. The graphics are posted in the challenge forum thread. There's no prize, no pressure, and anyone can enter (and anyone can vote). When you start participating on any level, it gives you confidence to go to the next level. Or just jump on in. If you are afraid of negative comments, just don't allow them (either temporarily or permanently). And, yes, I know I have very little in my gallery. I used to have over 200 graphics...and, you know, it just got easier over time.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 9:24 PM

I still find it a bit intimidating. I've been around for a few years, My first was posted in the beginners gallery. I had a couple of good responces and one really good critic, I never found the need to post there again. True, I think I only posted 3 or 4 the last year, I spend most of the time creating characters and modeling. So my new, soon to be posted in a gallery near you, render will almost feel like a first timer. I don't know if that feeling ever goes away, you just have to post it and see what happen. BTW, I don't think anyone will make fun of your work and some will help you with real tips and trick to get the look your trying for.

ghelmer ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 9:36 PM

Thanks all!! I'm gonna head on over to the beginners gallery now!! I really appreciate all your replys and good advice!! G Even though I don't believe in luck, wish me luck please?

Luck! And be sure to post the link to your graphic. :)

cappy3 ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 9:40 PM

Take the plunge, jump in..LOL!! I was in the same boat as you, but almost a year ago I said what the hell, why not. It's always a little nerve racking when you post an image. The other's left some good advice, I say give it a try.

NEThingbutNOcent ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 9:42 PM

Good luck! I think you will find most everyone here will be supportive of you, as long as you treat them with respect as well. :) (just in my own expreiences anyways, ;) It can be totally normal to be shy though, heck it took me months after I started rendering to post anything in the galleries, ;) Jump on in, I think you will do just fine ;)

Thanks again all for your advice!!

I'm not really a noob or am I? heh, I like using Poser for animations the most rather than just rendering 3D artwork. Not into the art so much as the animation. I've been using P4 for almost a year, still much to learn. I dont have time for galleries anymore. Good luck, hope your pics do well. :)

I still consider myself a noob... I started using Poser 4 when it came out in what '99 or 2000? Then got ProPack when that came out. THEN Poser 5 about 2 weeks after it came out!! I was so happy for SR1!! LOL! This is a hobby for me, I'd love to be good enough for it to be a career because I absolutely love 3D CGI! And 2D traditional animation too! "Not into the art so much as the animation." Animation is art. Even little scribbly doodle fliptures on a jot pad or post-its! Thanks!! G

Well, it took me nearly 4 YEARS of Posering and many, many hundreds of renders (a thousand?) before I dared to show a render to anyone at all, lol. But that's a bit extreme... Now I have a gallery here (since 2 years back) and feel safe with it :o) :] Fish

ghelmer ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 6:08 AM

Yeah, sounds like me too... I have about 4gb of renders and animations from the last 5 years. The pic I posted was thrown together yesterday (Like an hour maybe) before I posted it. I had noticed Vali's Faith character in the FreeStuff a few weeks ago and it wasn't available. I saw it was in there yesterday and grabbed it and threw the pic together and SHAZAM! I became a man finally and posted a pic in the gallery!! Hence the lack of postwork etc. I still think I suck but perhaps having someone other than myself critique my stuff I may finally strive to improve. Thanks again all!!! btw... I've seen your gallery before FishNose... tres bien!!! Not really into fetish stuff but you certainly showcase two of my favorite things quite well! ROFL!!!

I posted in the beginners gallery when I first started with Poser because you're posting along with other newbies. Once you're more confident post in the Poser gallery. It doesn't matter if what you do isn't as good as other's, what matters is that you're happy with your own results! Who's to say other's are better anyway, it's all a matter of taste. Some maybe better technically but not artistically. Go for it!
