Subject: Fun with Poser and surprising "real world" artists

Here's a chance for everyone to relate their tales of reactions from folks outside the Poser community when you show them your work. Here's my recent story: On Sunday night(Feb.6), I was invited to guest DJ at a club called "Art Bar". This has been my favorite wateringhole for years. Needless to say, lots of artists and musicians hang out there and the atmosphere is very psycadelic/retro 60's. Go to www.artbarsc.com for pics to see for yourself. Anyway, as a bonus to the folks that showed up, I gave out free prints of my Poser renders. Talk about impressing people! Even the elite graphic designers who hang out there gave me great reviews! Not one bad comment, even from some total stangers. I can't deny it, this night gave me one serious ego boost (but not the bad kind)! To top it off, the owner(who is an art collector) wants to commission me to make a poster-size render that he can frame and hang up in the club! Too COOL!! All in all, a wonderful experience that I wanted to share with my fellow Poserites! Now... does anybody else have a good Poser-related story? Go on and share it!

Oh boy! Any time you can combine music, and art, and moneymaking you must be doing something right. Congratulations!tongue.gif

You mean not ONE person said your stuff wasn't art because you use Poser? Wow! What were the renders of? Great view of that restroom.

Yeah, Jackson. Not ONE person complained about the words "Poser" and "art" being in the same sentence! Even a couple of graphic designers that looked at my stuff were quite curious about Poser, so of course I bored them with WAY too many details ;) Some of the renders were prints from the work in my Renderosity gallery. Others were WIPs from an animation that I'm working on. And yeah, the restrooms are really cool - the barstaff keeps a can of markers handy for anyone who wants to put up some graffiti. In fact, they encourage it! Geoegress, the Art Bar is located in Columbia, South Carolina. It's a dance club during the week and a band showcase on weekends.

Generally, the only people who get very upset at Poser artists are other 2D or 3D artists who have a vested interest in their techniques. There is bad Poser art out there because the cost of entry is low enough that just about anybody can use the program. Every image by Poser artists is not an immediate masterpiece. The program is a long way from being "art in a box". I've seen enough really good Poser art that the program is literally one more tool that a talented artist can use to their advantage. It takes a lot of time to be very proficient with the program, but the results are worth it.

My visual indexes of Poser content are at http://www.sharecg.com/pf/rgagnon
