I found this reference on forms of English (North American) haiku some may find of interest. Most people know that Japanese haiku is traditionally of the form 5-7-5. However, you will often see many American haiku of the form 3-5-3. This page explains the linguistic differences that cause this apparent deviation from the standard form and why it makes sense.
