Look into Cactus or Iris Printing. Check the back of Wired magazine for ads for this sort of thing. Ask the service bureau what their requirements are, it varies and doesn't necessarily have to 300 DPI. MitchAs far as large format printing, the fading depends a lot on the ink that is used for the print. There are UV resistant inks, but it still helps not to display it in direct sunlight no matter what. As far as resolution, it also depends on what the requirements are from where they are being printed. You have to shop around, like weirdass said. I've found a local place (in San Diego) that uses Encad and HP printers for large format inkjet printing. They put out great stuff and only need 100 dpi files, and ony charge $3.85/sq.ft. Off coarse, lithographic prints involve a bit more in the way of setup, but if you do large quantities, it's really the way to go. In the case of large format inkjet printing, say you want a poster 36" tall and 20" wide. You render the image to disk in Bryce at 3600 pixels tall by 2000 pixels wide. This comes out to 50" x 27.78" at 72 dpi when rendered this way in Bryce. To get the proper dimensions, bring it into a program like PhotoShop, and change the dpi to 100, and then change the dimensions to 36" x 20". The pixel numbers will remain the same. Also, something that is very important and often overlooked, change the mode from RGB to CYMK. Now you can present the file for printing. If you use a lot of blues in the scene, you're going to find the overall color changed pretty drastic, so be warned. By the way, a 36" x 20" poster through this place would cost about $19.25 (5 sq.ft. x $3.85). And, if you want larger quantities, I'm sure the price goes down per square foot. Hope this all helps.

A few weeks ago I talked about "Diavographie", a new printing technology developed in Germany (see the link above). It's a bit pricy but the results are worth it!This site uses cookies to deliver the best experience. Our own cookies make user accounts and other features possible.
