Dear Fellow Artists of the Renderosity Community, Hello. Just so you all know who I am: my name is Ben Tibbetts. I am fifteen years old and a sophomore in high school. My parents are both music teachers, and I myself have studied under musicians such as Thomas Snow, John Foss, Ronald Marlowe, and have played for/under musicians such as Elliot Del Borgo, Professor Isadore Rudnick, James Johnson, Al Corey, and many more. If you already know me from this website, it's probably because you've seen my fun with Bryce (see my gallery under my username, "mrscience"), which I have enjoyed doing for (is it three already?) three years now. Now there are many incredible artists out there in this community and I'm sure I have yet to view all their fine artwork. Some of these artists work in the artistic field professionally while others are just plain good at a fun hobby. This letter is primarily directed at those who don't get much outside funding for their art projects and more specifically the animators. I've composed music for a total of 6-7 years now. I hope to grow up to make a living composing scores for films. I love to make music, and I consider mself very skilled at it. However, I am desperate for more experience with film, and of course any experience in music in general is beneficial regarding colleges' acceptance, honing my skills, etc. Therefore, I'm making an offer for any who are creating animations on Renderosity: I am willing to write, for no fee, music for your animated projects. There are no strings attached to this; I am doing this because I want a taste of what I'm getting into as a composer. I can't promise an orchestra, but whatever music I create for you will most likely be recorded live in my house for your project. I own a cheap synthesizer, a music-writing program, a recording setup, a baby grand piano, a flugel horn, and a trumpet. If you don't like the music I send to you, don't use it. If you do like it take it, put it to your animation, give me credit, and gimme an email telling me so I can gloat... I will follow to the best of my ability what kinds of moods, cues, etc. you want my music to produce for your project. Now that I have laid down the offer, here are the things I will NOT do: 1. Create music for any animation I consider offending, pornographic, unnecessarily violent, gory, disgusting, or in any way undesirable on my family's computer screen. 2. Create music for any animation that doesn't work on at least one of my computers, contains a virus, etc. I prefer either .wmv or .avi format. 3. Financially support an animation. 4. Write, record, or send a song with lyrics. I don't have access to any vocalists at this time and I myself have a voice that would break windows. 5. Infringe upon copyright laws by reusing recently made compositions or recordings; i.e. I'm not going to send you a John Williams theme to work for your animation, sit back and call it done. Whatever I send you will either be my own work made for your project or be a piece of music composed long enough ago that its use doesn't break any copyright laws. For example,if I feel it works with your animation I may simply arrange a Chopin solo piano piece to fit your project, play it, and send you the recording. 6. Take liability for how my music is used. I am merely making the music for your animation; however YOU choose to use my music is your responsibility and yours alone. I refuse to take legal responsibility for any commercial use of my compositions. 7. Take credit for the animation itself. I only want credit for the music, and you can choose how to distribute that credit as you wish; I don't care, as long as my name's somehwere. 8. Promise the music done within a certain time limit. Please remember I am only fifteen years old; I still go to school, have homework, etc. If the animation is an hour long it could easily be months before I get back to you, whereas if it's a ten-second moving picture I might get you a recording by the next day. Tell me before I write the music whether you want a MIDI (computer-synthesized and played) composition or an MP3 (prerecorded live) recording, and please give me a very detailed description of what you want me to make for you. Tell me what mood you want to achieve, what cues you want and where, etc. Please also include a download link for your animation or send it as an attachment with your email. I reserve the right to refuse usage of my music at any time. Is anyone interested? If so, please email me at tibbetts@pivot.net. God Bless, Ben Tibbetts "mrscience" of Renderosity.com
