Subject: Good bye Bryce

Save. It seemed so simple at the time.
Save. I've textured everything.
Save. Just need a light dome and a star field.
Save. Hmmm, this might take a while.
Save. I'll just open PSP and get the star field ready.
Save. 44% complete was the last I saw.
Save. Come on, there's still 7 Gig free on the drive.
Save. Oh where? Oh where, has my little Bryce gone?
Save. At this point, I'd be better off to yank the plug.
Save. Thank God I Save As'd Untitled5.br5.

(xenic101 highly recommends saving under a new file name frequently to avoid damaging the computer.)

Oh poor xenic, I knew I shouldn't have left you alone in the room last night, so sorry to hear what happened. :(

Ouch!!!!

Quest ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 8:39 AM

Oh my, that sucks big time! An expensive lesson to learn. But it happens to the best of us.

Swade ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 9:24 AM

Been there myself man and it really sucks. Sorry to hear you are having to deal with this now.

There are 10 kinds of people: Those who know binary, and those who don't.

A whiner is about as useful as a one-legged man at an arse kicking contest.

analog-x, that's why there's only 7 free gig on the hd. ;)

IndigoButterfly ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 3:03 PM

Been there too. I've my share of rattletrap PCs with never enough memory. I mean, rats! Just because I have everything on it, and only six applications open! Who'd a thought. ;)

Without going overboard what would you guys recommend for Fast Rendering?

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 6:57 PM

Turn off ray-tracing in the Render settings... Wait, you can't. For fast rendering, turn off all of the optical options, like shadows, trasparency, etc. Turn off Anti-Aliasing. Should render much faster, but will obviously look like Vue or something... (grins)

Analog-X64 ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 7:07 PM

Should have been a bit more clear. What hardware? A friend of mine wants to purchase a new PC. I was going to recommend Dual Channel 512 or 1 gig DDR RAM with Fastest Processor he could afford, ATI or NVidia card with 256MB Ram etc.. Just curious what the Rendergods use :)

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 7:11 PM

That is exactly what the rendergods use, because that is as good as it gets, Analog. The fastest computers in the world today are just strings of Athlon 64's.
