Subject: Poser asks for non-existent files!

Hi, can anyone help me with this one, it's really bizarre!!

I just created a new set of textures for a V3 character; I applied all the textures in Poser ready to create a MAT file for it. So far so good. I added resulting figure to my Figures library. No problems there. Then I quit Poser, and opened up the cr2 in MATconverter to create a MAT file. The MAT file was placed in the Pose folder, all done correctly. Again, everything went fine. I then opened up Poser again, and with a new V3 figure, I went to my Pose folder to test the MAT file I just created. There it is, looking lovely. I click on it... and Poser thinks for a minute, then asks me for a jpeg that I haven't got, never created, never had, and was never applied to the figure!! What's going on here?
When I cancel, I get the usual 'Do you want to keep looking for missing files?' error message. Clicking No, I wait and wait and wait, but Poser doesn't apply the MAT; it's doing something, but I don't know what. It should know where all the files are because I told it in MATconverter. Finally, I give up waiting and click restart; it's the only way out. Anybody got any bright ideas?

I'm using Poser 4.03 on a Mac, with system 9.2.2.

Go through the MAT file in a plain text editor program and search for that texture. It will be there. Change it to something else.

I had the same problem... I moved some of my folders and possibly moved some files that were not updated for poser 6 with the same name. So what I did was reinstall over top of my first install wich changed the names and updated the correct file back to poser 6 files. Working fine now and im not being asked for string files.

So, what you're saying is: Poser creates jpegs all by itself and gives them a name it just thinks of, and then decides to apply that jpeg to a character I've created, without me even wanting it there? Sounds screwy to me.... maybe you didn't read my problem properly? Like I said, Poser is asking for a jpeg that I don't have anywhere on my entire system, because I never created one with that name. What I don't understand is why Poser would ask for something it doesn't need.

Just went through the MAT file in BBEDit and the requested jpeg is NOT in there.

Poser asks for files that it is told to look for. If the Cr2 references a file, if the stupid MAT pose references a file, if the installer references a file, Poser will quite obligingly hunt it down. What this means is that if the installer or the modeller or the texturer made a mistake, a typo, a slip of the pen, even such things as too long path names or the wrong case... then the program will be doing exactly what it is supposed to do (gather the needed items) and all for nought when it stumbles over a missing item like a blind man tripping over a hole. I was exceeding impressed when Poser 6 went looking for a texture and I told it to quite searching... and it did! No more 20 minute waits while it sniffles and drags its foot in the dirt. Carolly
