Shot some rolls of Ilford Delta 3200 on my Holga, but also brought the D70 along for the ride..... will be processing the film tonight but in the meantime I have quite a few digital images to process.... This is the one and only I've tackled so far..... I'm trying to replicate the look and feel of the Holga ie. vignetting, softness, but without the lightleaks one will get from the $20 toy..... Not sure which direction I want to take these in yet.... but certainly will not be printed larger than 6X6 square.

I am, therefore I create.......

The color version, unedited, uncropped, is also visually appealing but does not lend to the somber mood I'm trying to create, at least I don't think so..... In any case here it is..... shot with the Sigma 20-40 at 20mm ..... f/4 and 1/20 sec. Tripod mounted.

whooo...scaaaary doll!!! Damn, the b/w version is nothing less than disturbing.... the result should be interesting! Looking forward to it! (",)

ah... the creative moody one at work... i'm intrigued... the somberness you choose to create works well in the b&w postworked version... in the color, my eye goes to those ruby lips... enjoy your time in the process of these... look forward to seeing more 'chelle :]

I'm not quite sure what u're trying to do here Michelle, but, on this particular one, I prefer the colored version! It has such a nice old feeling! The B&W one is kinda creepy though and maybe that's what u're after??

definately appeals to the dark side!! a part of me wants to embrace it... hey chelle! a poor bird clobbered himself good on one of the windows the other day (sorry pascale) his bones dried quite nicely :]

Awwwww! :(

Michelle, i think the b&w does have the sombre feel you're looking for. good luck with the project and hope to see more of it. you mentioned printing them at 6x6 which reminds me of an exhibition i went to recently where the majority of the images were of that size or smaller and the photos certainly have a different feel to them. lol, you guys and those bones!! Cindy, have you mentioned the skulls to your bull :))

Pictures appear to me, I shoot them.   Elliot Erwitt

Not sure I agree Michelle, I like the un-cropped one more, and you know I just have to be different (must be the missing marbles and lack of sleep)

Putting in crash helmet to justify reasoning he he.

For me the un-cropped image if monotone would have a feel of desolation because of the untidiness and mess on the floor, I feel that this would also have/have more of a sombre mood to it, and neglect or have I missed the point?

Oh yes while I have your attention have a look at Kropots last image upload, I promise you will thank me for pointing it out.

Ok going now

Excellent work btw

Oops I ment Kropot's 2nd last upload "Hooked"

Yeah an interesting plan and I like them both B/W best but the colour version as you say has a lot going for it too.. Maybe in postwork the background could be darker as the colours match the doll atm but sure you will find a way to see it as you have in the minds eye

You know I kind of think the B&W makes it look rather soft and not so sombre. Colour is very realistic and a little frightening...maybe a dark sepia tone would get the mood.

Mpt only do you have a great eye you have great luck. Where do you find this stuff?

Michelle A. ( ) posted Sat, 26 March 2005 at 10:15 PM

Typed out this long winded reply.....and it disappeared! Frustrating.... and I'm too tired to type it all out again. Thanks for the opinions and suggestions. Whatever I decide I need to do it soon..... has to be consistent, all bw or all color, square or rectangular, but not a mix. Michael..... the doll came from a junk store. The location an abandoned summer shack by the pond near my house. If that's what you meant......

follow your first instinct 'chelle... it has your signature

The B&W (monochrome) focuses my attention directly on the doll, especially the FACE (those eyes& lips)..WHOA!!! Foreboding mood to say the least. I'm not sure the crop works in this one (IMHO). After seeing the unedited version, I feel the debris on the floor really ADDS that something extra to the image (gives more to the story to me!) The coloring & tones of the (doll /floor) are very similiar in ways and give that connection! I also like the STONG diagonal line created by the mattress in the unedited version...it contrasts so well against the floor and balances out the image...Yet the dolls position cuts thru that "line" just enuff to throw the balance off a bit! THAT and the dolls un-natural pose give the whole image a very UNEASY feeling

I guess it all depends how u did ur other images! If u already cropped them in a square format, I guess u don't want to do it all over again! That said, I definetely stick to the colored and rectangular version! Daze described what I think about it beautifully! I have the feeling that we're not helping much here! :(

Michelle, I've found that happens to me lately too - now when I've typed a long message I copy it, then click post - if it dowsn't work, just hit the back button on your browser and post again. (I only copy it in case this doesn't work then I don't lose the whole thing) It seems like the pages time out or something........... hope this helps ;-) (",)
