A few people have asked how, here is how I do it. You may need to download the latest version of UVMapper. Get to know the HotKeys, they are your friends. Click Help/HotKeys, and you get an list of the hotkeys. Open your obj, select all, press the [ key (hide facets). Select the mesh by group or material, whichever gets you the selection you want. Press the ] key (show facets). Remap to your heart's desire. Save the model and texture map. When you save the map, make sure the "Exclude Hidden Facets" box is checked. You can use this procedure to make as many maps for a single obj as you want.

Could this technique be used to simulate specularity or diffusion maps?

I don't have a clue what you are talking about, Duane.

Making a separate map for groups will get you into trouble. Poser textures by material. If a mesh had 50 different materials, you could have 50 different maps (layers) - one for each material. But if the have two or more groups which all use the same material and you put the groups on separate layers, then you must decide which of the layers you wish to use to texture the lot of them. Poser only gives you one shot at each material. Duane, Who was it, who pointed out that the bump channel could be used to add special texturing effects? Covert a texture to *.bmp and then change the extension to *.BUM . This was done with skin textures and it was tricky to render without artifact, but maybe one or both of those effects could be done with this.
