i have just upgraded my os to win xp.. and have found that when i try and reload vue 4 it wont let me? I am told that i donot have sufficient rights to do so and that i contact and administrator? All my other software poser5 ect cause no problem? Im new to xp and really dont know how to give my self the rights to install software on my own machine.. I thought i was automatically the admin bod! Please help.. :-)

Usually the first user is created as the administrator, but sounds like you may have installed over another OS? Never mind. Go into Computer Management, Right Click My Computer and select Manage. Then find Local Users and Groups->Users in the left hand pane. In the right hand pane should be a list of the users on your computer. One should be called "administrator", you might want to right click it and set a password for it. You can log in with the administrator settings next time. But you can also check your named profile there too and make sure it's set as administrator (btw you can check this from Control Panel->User Accounts too - might be worthwhile doing that first). Finally, you shouldn't need to log off/log on as administrator either. You can right-click the executable to install Vue, and choose "Run as", entering the administrator users details to allow you to continue :) Good luck

OOPS.. My win xp came with serial pack 2 onboard!

You can remove it anyway I think.

I don't think this is particularly an SP2 problem anyway, so see how it goes, SP2 might be fine for you.

Well i checked my settings and i appear to full administrative rights!.. I also set a password too and logged in but still vue wont load up.. This error appears to occur near the end of the install, and it occurs in the vue4 loader? I was just not expecting this when i brought xp.. DUH! Baffled.. :-(

I won't touch XP with a barge pole. I cannot stand the look of it or the time it takes to shut down, or the hassle it gives you to install something ( as you are clearly finding out). I still find myself amazed every time I hear someone say they have just gone and installed it, or WORSE.... LIKE IT!!! Umm.... I have to go put my head in the oven now.... having an XP nightmare.... cartoon dogs.... SP2...bye, bye now.

Yeeech Belgareth, I won't touch a computer w/o XP. I've worked my way through WinNT, Win2000 and now XP, and I do prefer XP because the OS runs smoother & faster w/o any slowdowns or hickups as with the other 2. (And no - not just because I've upgraded the computer...) Yes - I HATE the XP display, so I run my XP with the "Classic" desktop - so it looks just like WinNT screen I loved so much. BTW - I wouldn't mind you sticking your head in my oven - hold on - I'll hand you the oven cleaner... ;-D.

lol... I did sound a bit harsh, didn't I...lol I had a friend who bought a computer from PC World, I think it was, which came with XP pre-installed. It had a lot of problems (but it was still a New release at the time, about 3 months on the market) so he asked me for some help and wow... what a nightmare. There is one thing I really like about it, but not enough to install it, and that is the Multithreading. I have Dual P4 2.8GHz Xeon Processors that can use Multithreading. Apart from that, I cannot see the advantage, but then again, as I do not use / play with it, I can't really pass judgment, only my personal opinion. Still cant believe you like it though...lol p.s... I am still waiting for the oven cleaner...lol :)

After this last go around, I'll probably wait for XP-64. They built it out of Server 2003, not XP, so it =should= be a little more geek-friendly.....as in configurable.
