Hi....if you are thinking of purchasing the RealSkinShader for your Jessi and James figures, you may want to hold off for a few days. Hopefully by the end of this week the P6 Character Realism Kit will available here and at the Content Paradise. The Kit is specifically for Jessi, James, Kate and Ben, and provides a render quality similar to the HyperReal scripts (ie. Better than the RealSkinShader). It's for P6 only, and has a new workflow that means no more selecting the main light before you run the script each time. And you can run it from the "User Defined" wacro button in the Material Room. FAQ can be found at http://www.users.on.net/~pkinnane/P6RealismKitNews.html

Will there be a P6 version for the Mil people as well?

face_off ( ) posted Sun, 10 April 2005 at 6:38 PM

Yes - see http://www.users.on.net/~pkinnane/ShaderComparison.html for details. The idea is to do /all/ the DAZ Gen 3 figures in 1 script. Working on it now, but it's a big job - so it's probably a month away at the soonest. In the meantime, HyperReal is compatible with P6, so use that. Will the DAZ Gen 2 figures ever get done? Not sure - but there is always the RealSkinShader.

How does this look with non-standard (i.e. non-human) skin textures? I don't actually mean this specific shader, I mean any of them -- this one, the unimesh one you have in the works, etc.

On fur, I think it would look poor. On alien's, orcs, etc, you would need to tweak the sss and specular setting in the dialog to get a look that fit with the theme of the figure you are using. If you are using non-standard figures, and they have a different uv mapping to Jessi, James or V3/M3, then you would need to go with the RealSkinShader - since it works regardless of the uv mapping (but the effect isn't to the realism standard of the uv specific scripts).

Will the realism kit be for Macs too? ;-)

face_off ( ) posted Mon, 11 April 2005 at 4:12 PM

Pricing? $15 for the P6 Character script. Not sure on the DAZ Gen3 kit yet. Macs? Yes - although the version being released in a few days is PC only. We are working on the Mac version right now, and it is probably 3-5 weeks away.

Does it work for textures that are created in the Face Room ?

Ethesis ( ) posted Tue, 12 April 2005 at 5:55 PM

http://thesurrealist.co.uk/monster?def=Ethesis Silly blog battles. Hey, had to do something while waiting on the downloads.

mathman, thanks for bring this up. On investigation, the initial release is not compatible with textures made in the Face Room. I've now made the appropriate changes to make it fully compatible, and will upload to Renderosity today - so the free update should be available within the week.

Attached Link: http://www.users.on.net/~pkinnane/P6RealismKitNews.html

I've posted a little more info on the Face Room change at the above link. I don't think at this time there are any 3rd party texturemap sets that are compatible with the Face Room, so even without the Realism Kit, just to get 3rd party texturemaps running with the Face Room you'll need to get your hands dirty in the Mat Room.
