Subject: prop questions.

Ok i know most of you are having fun with poser 6 .. but i'm poor and still playin with my poser 4 :P

any how im currently working on a build your own polearm set .. it'll have a shaft, and modular pieces tht you can mix and match to make your own polearms.

So far i have modles the shaft, 11 historically accurate heads, a butt spike, 2 cbutt counter weights balls, n optional ring of spiks to go around the spike and or counter weights, and an optional detailed gripping surface for the shaft.. but i ran into a couple of questions.

  1. How many objects can you parent to a single object? Is there a limit? I thought i remembered reading something about 2, but i'm not real sure.

  2. Can a single poser group have multiple materials? for instance if i make the head and the rivets all one group can i have the head 1 silver and the rivets bronze?

(for those of you curious as to the status of the p4 fem fantasy armour ... it's currently waiting for some morphs to be done and sent to me.)

I don't know of a limit to the number of parented props - some scenes I've seen have large numbers of them. A group can have several materials. By the way, groups are not important for props, only for posable figures.

well i work with rhino and i was thinking i could group each part heads, shaft, ends, ect .. and import it all into poser as 1 modle that way i could scale it all at once and make certain it all scales evenly .. then go into grouping tool and spawn props from groups then export each prop to individual obj's ... however i wanted the rivets to go with the heads and not be thier own props :) as for the first question i just wanted to make sure there wern't going to be issues with parenting 2 or 3 ends, a head and the grip all to the shaft.

Q. "1) How many objects can you parent to a single object? Is there a limit? I thought i remembered reading something about 2, but i'm not real sure."

A. As many as you want - how much memory do you have? ;=]

Q. "2) Can a single poser group have multiple materials? for instance if i make the head and the rivets all one group can i have the head 1 silver and the rivets bronze?"

A. Yes. Make separate (sub)groups and then assign different materials to the (sub)groups.

  1. I never herd of any limit, all I can say for sure is a lot. A child can only have one parent, but a parent may have many children

  2. Yes, UVMapper is good for doing this, or you may be able to do it in your moddling app. In UVMapper you do not have to create "separate (sub)groups", you can assign diffrent materials to diffrent parts of the same group.

Thanks guys, i got everything grouped how i wanted it in Rhino .. and it helpos that i could use layers and export by layer :) git it into poser.. scalled where i want it, cleaneed out the excess groups and then spawned props and it works like a charm. now to uvm and make smart props ...
