This peacock is quite reflective...and irridescent. Does that count in the challenge?

got it! yes Tom, I would say it's got some reflection to it :]

I am not the judge reflections and refractions, but I really like this image. I was also wondering about this challenge. Isn't all that we see and photograph a reflection of light off surfaces that transmit various wave length frequencies back to our sensors?

TomDart ( ) posted Sat, 07 May 2005 at 7:28 PM

Yes, ryno, it is. Items absorb and selectively reflect light to our eyes. Some refract, bend light as a view of a stick pushed halfway into clear water, giving an illusion of a bent stick. A diamond works on reflection and refraction. The refraction creates a dispersion of light and colors shows as from a prism from a colorless body. Birds, beetles and other critters amaze me with the colors. I guess feathers might be both reflective and refractive in some birds. Then, where do beetles with shiny armor get that wondrous metallic sheen! Oh my, I got carried away. Tom.

I think it's good to get a little carried away every now and then:}

Dunno if this one works for the challenge but it certainly is a most beautiful and colorful capture! What a treat for the eyes Thomas! Thx for sharing!
