Subject: Fortress WIP update

Aye, I recently restructured some parts of this fortress to make it more Bryceable. Originally, all of the windows had physical bars, which were simply cylinders. So, each one had four or five cylinders apiece. Muliplied through, this turned out to be too heavy on polys, the bars themselves having nearly one million polys. So, I did some re-grouping in Rhino, and exported just the FRAMES back into my Bryce scene, and boom! On million less polys, and much more managibility... Now I can actually insert the 600,000 polys worth of torch objects and hopefully get a nice clean render soon...

And a screenshot, with only the castle polys selected...

Hey, looking really coool! Er... almost hate to ask this... ah what the heck: Are you going to put any people in the scene?

Love the scale of this Fortress. Just read an article somewhere about Texture & shaders VS physical polys. Just as convincing, less taxing. ICM (wondering if that's like "Less filling, taste great")

(grins) Aye, most of the architectural detail is already done (from a modeling standpoint). Now I just have to keep adding "props" until the scene fills up! The fortress will most likely go into this scene... So things left to do : people carts wagons horses soldiers atop the walls dirt more dirt...!

I remember seeing this when you posted the first version in your gallery. This looks 300% better! =) Can't wait to see the final render.

How will you add dirt?

Oy, looks awesome, still waiting to see this finished product!!! Great job, keep us up to date!

Curiosity: how did you do the mist effects? I use Peter Sharpe's mist texture, this doesn't look like that. I'm guessing that you are using a modification of a volumetric cloud texture? And Bryster your Crystal Palace WAS very VERY complicated!! =)

The fortress looks very impressive! I really like the textures, lighting and atmosphere too. As far as the window bars; I've also been guilty of making details with too-many polys, details that no one would ever get close enough to notice or appreciate, lol. I look forward to seeing the completed pic.

Wow, those are very nice textures on the ground. I assume you are going to put a marketplace with people and etc. around in there? Grrr... you make me want to go and model my own fortress... =)

Nothing stoppin ya but the software and TIME, Shinyary! I'd love to see you make one...

Okay, maybe I will. I probably will. First, though, I need to make another image teasing draculaz... it's fun and I've got a good idea for it! =)
