Needs a few more details to breakup those large flat areas. Still can't find the right texture for it. I'd appreciate any help. Particularly a tut on creating hull plating in PS.

Still haven't added the beach terrain in the transparent nose.

C&C appreciated. Oh, the name of the this bird is the Starhawk. I used a picture of a hawk for inspiration.

So far, so good! The areas of detail contain plenty. I can't wait to see this when it's finished! It does look lux, too....

i agree, very nice!

Very cool detailing! You could pick up a lot of great ideas for creating tiling textures in PS by reading Pidjy's recent posts.

one thing i noticed about ship-building that i thought was important was that while initially it seems harder to do, making a spaceship out of different parts/objects as opposed to starting out as a cube is actually easier and affords you more tinkering. like i notice quite a lot of triangulation going on in teh facets. i'm sure you meant for a number of those too be present, but others are just there because of the way you modelled it. try thinking of a way to separate your models in logical parts :)

There is a bryce preset that is fair at hull plating but you have to change it a lot. Take gilded cage (it is either under miscelaneous or wild and fun)and then remove the transparency channel. Play with the settings till you get what you like. Also project dogwaffle has a hull plating preset. (it is a free photoshop style program)

At the Adobe Studio Exchange site "GOT to register with them to download I think" there is a set of actions for PS called "Surfactions" Makes great spaceship plating and other cool stuff.

Fairly decent way of making the usual sci-fi hull in Photoshop. Decent. AS

Thanks AS, that is a useful tut.

@Drac: you're absolutely right, I don't want any of that triangulation to be there. It doesn't appear in Wings. Don't know why Bryce is rendering it that way. Thanks daydreams and AS.

there's a metal mat out there that expands into several textures, including one called 'hull plate'. There's also someone called Bill, that had a set of spaceships with some very nice textures (though, it must be said, that overuse of these [who, me?..;] will push the size of a jpg past the 500k limit..;) He posted them in a thread awhile back.

Sorry I didn't zero in on that action with the link. I thought you could do a search for surfactions at that link and it would pop right up.

Er... maybe you COULD do a search... I didn't think of it.
(hides under rock)

Oh lovely, I've heard a lot about that tylenol stuff.

Don't worry though, I've got some nice Co-Dydramol tablets, and pink Ibuprofen smarties... And if I go sit down with a nice cup-a-coffee and stop peering at the computer screen.... ggg Actually, during that hunting session I found a few other nice things to play with, so maybe the neck ache is good?
